3 inch Old Man Emu lift
    Hi all,

I recently started hearing and feeling a popping or shifting noise when turning right AND hitting an incline, like a driveway. Last summer I installed an old man emu 3 inch lift and have been four wheeling multiple times. I've torqued all the bolts multiple times (and every time I get more turns?) and I can't figure out what it is. I've jacked up the truck and yanked on the wheels and there is no play that I can feel so I'm thinking it's not wheel bearings, my CV's have a little play all directions where they mount to the front diff but I think that is normal, I've changed out steering rack bushings because I found play there but the noise still persists. The only thing I can think is my leaf pack shifting on itself because I can see it has but do they move THAT much every turn? The thing is I can hear it and I think its coming from the passenger side but I can feel it under my floorboard and sometimes it does sound like it comes from the back. HELP

Sounds like a cv joint? That's my guess.

He subscribed to updates on the thread. If someone posts something, he'll get an update.

He most likely has the same problem or he just wants to gain knowledge in case it might happen to him in the future.

    From my past experience...

I would replace the rubber mounts that hold the sway bar to the frame. That was the cause of my problem, a dull clunk when I made left turns from a stop. You could use poly bushings but then you may increase the risk of breaking sway bar links.

Yep. Got a similar problem. Getting a pop when I make turns, left or right. New suspension components too.

My issue was either the sway bar end links popping or the drivers side LBJ mounting stud nut was loose. Try removing the sway bar from the truck and see if the sound goes away.

Ball joints or tie rod ends. Get the front wheels in the air and start checking for abnormal movement. Grab the wheel at the 3 oclock and 9 oclock position and pull and push see if the wheel moves. Do the same at 12 and 6 oclock positions.

When you shake the wheel at 3 and 9, pay close attention. Mine had play and I first thought I had bad tie rods. It was actually play in the rack bushings. Just a heads up.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
You keep tightening down the upper arm bushings?? I've heard them creak/pop when dry.

I replaced rack pushings with poly ones. I will try removing sway bar. Any advice on getting the end links off since they don't have a wrench flat on the back side? Also I have jacked it up and pulled on 3 and 9 and on the driver side wheel it get a knocking but it is my steering column and I'm not sure if that is normal or not?

Yeah there should be an allen head in the end of the bolt then stick an end wrench on the nut to get the links off.
