    Ladies and gentlemen ,, can anybody provide us (me) with the new ring and pinion sizes ?? I know the ratios already another post ,, however I can't seem to find ring size., I heard rumors the mt has gone to a 9" + size ,, need some clarification please as I am planning on going from the 4.30 ratio up to the 4.88 because of added tire size ,, weight and plan on towing small tent trailer ,, thanks in advance one and all

    Search Google with the query "Toyota Tacoma 8.75" and you'll get all kinds of results confirming the new OR rear axle. Axle code is BD22AN.

    Your telling it's an 8.4",,, the diff codes sheet says
    B =8"
    06=3.91
    A= 2 pinion open
    Further down on the next pic the code B06A tells me it's a 7.5" ring lol and this pic tells me I have 4.3 ratio,,lol

    You have an 8" axle in the rear, but toyota has like 4 different 8" axles. the ones the tacos come with these days has been nick named the 8.4" because it has a stronger design. TRD offroad gets new 8.75" axle with locker.

    So I think your question is about stock gear ratio?

    According to the axle code you provided it's a 8" ring, 2 pinnion design(everything up to this point is right and makes sense) but with 3.91 gear ratio which doesnt match the toyota spec sheet for 2016 because it says it should be 4.30. Is that what you're confused about? If so ignore the PDF where u got the info from. It has several mistakes, including gear ratios being listed incorrectly for the 5 speed manual. For whatever reason you have a 3.91 Axle gearing. Honestly the best way to test it out is to spin the tire with the truck in neutral and see how many turns of the driveshaft you get. If almost 4 turns or right on 4, then 3.9 confirmed, if over 4 turns then 4.30.

    That axle decode hasn't applied to new Toyota's since the mid 90's. You say you have a Sport then you've got an 8.75 (or 8.8 if you prefer) rear end, and I assume a manual because you have 4.30 gears.

    BTW, BD22A from all the Toyota lit = B06A on the door.

    This... The axle codes do not correlate to the ratios anymore. They did back in the late 90s and 2000s but not anymore. All 2016+ MT V6 trucks have the bigger axle 8.75 and 4.30 gears. The AT trucks have either a 8.0 or 8.75 depending on trim level.

    8.4 does not exist (never really did on the 2ng Gen either). Yes, off road trucks get the 8.75. All MT V6 trucks do as well. The rest get 8.0.

    Your PDF has a copyright date of 2012 so i wouldn't trust it for information on a 2016 truck.

    It's a nickname for the axle. Most after market sites will list things under the toyota 8.4" because it's become such a popular way of referring to the axle. The only exception has been the e locker models which came with the 8" v6 and now they come with the 8.75"

    It's also worth noting that there are no aftermarket gears on the market yet for the new 8.75 gears, not that I've seen anyway. I would expect it'll be summer at the earliest before we start seeing anything.
