On tires...I love my Goodyear Duratracs. Second set. Aggressive looking side profile and totally awesome in rain, mud and sand. No road howling and pretty good tread life. No issues yet:cool:

Hey fellas, need some help with this:

Just recently, I just noticed that my lady's Tacoma has a squeaking noise every time I reverse. Any clue on what it might be? Thanks fellas!

Is it from the rear? I have the most irritating groan from my rear drums that has been there since owning the truck.. The only thing that made it better was when I opened up the drums and cleaned out the dust, and backed off on the shoes... I don't think the shoes are of the best quality... Thinking about akebono upgrades or rear disk upgrade.. I def think its the shoes though.... Happens only reversing down into my parking stall at a slight reverse decline... And its the brakes for sure.. I can reproduce it if you need to compare...

    Hey J,
Yes, the sound is coming from the rear and by the tires. The truck's drum hasn't been changed since she brought it so maybe it's time for a change?

I would start by taking the drums off and looking... You can clean up the pads and visually check them.. They shouldn't be worn out so fast, they are one of the longer wearing items compared to disk brakes that need pads every 50k... I would remove the drum and clean the dust... Grease the contact points on both sides of each shoe and back the adjusters off until the wheels free spin... Then spin the wheel freely forward while you have an assistant (the wife haha) stomp the pedal to lock the wheel you just free spun then adjust the shoes until they just start to touch then do the pedal stomp stop free spinning wheel thingy again... If you were curious that process seats the shoes in the drums... Once that last stomp is done back the adjustment off until the shoes non longer touch and repeat for the other side

My rear discs were loud as hell reversing after this last camping trip. Pulled the pads and they were caked up with mud. Cleaned them out and good to go. Drums are a different monster, but they suffer from the same problems.

Pull them, look at the condition. Clean or replace and you should be good to go.

I know you said it's coming from near the tires but check the u joint on your driveshaft too. Might be worn.

Think a ujoint would manifest as a knocking, rattle, vibration, or a hum?

No sir not I... I'm at work... Trust me its fucking loud and it rumbles like a Subaru... Toyota was smart and gave us semi-long-tube headers... Good for low end and that's good for a 4 cyl truck... But they didn't make them equal length so it rumbles a bit... Come by the shop, I'll honk it for you
