CBs and CB antennas

That is a really clean install, nice work.
For those who might be looking for an alternative unit to mount in the same location, there is this AnyTone. *Some modification required to run this as a CB.
Added a right-angle antenna adapter and a 12V plug and just drop it in when needed.

 

The link to the Wilson antenna also points out that a spring is beneficial in many ways. Even if you ran a 6' whip antenna, a spring is good insurance.

 

I totally copied your antenna install and went with relentless fab. I didnt have anyone to help me, but was able to install in about 15 minutes by myself.

Dude thats awesome! I have the 880 and took it apart in hopes of mounting it remotely, like the member did with the analog cb, only to find a very small ribbon cable that didn't look possible (for me anyway) to lengthen. Do you have a write up on this? I wish there was a long ribbon cable you could just replace the short one with.

I bought this one originally to do the exact same thing. Decided not to and just did the uniden. Now you just need the wireless mic and it would be bad ass!

So I dont have a write up on it but I do have a few extra photos. Nothing really to see tho. I was able to find an old laptop cable that was a direct replacement to that ribbon cable on Ebay. It took a while to get and was just about 2 ft which was only just long enough to mount the body of the radio under the driver seat. For the other two cables i used a piece of CAT5e to extend them with a soldering iron.

I believe the ribbon cable is a FFC 35 conductor with a 0.5mm pitch. I have been looking for another one for a friend but haven't had any luck. there are companies that will build the longer ribbon for you but they wanted $300 for a run of 5 when i talked to them.

I suspect you could splice the ribbon cable or, remove the connector on the circuit board and run some 22awg wire. It would be a challenge tho.

 

Thanks, I will try and look for one. I thought I might be able to splice it, but boy oh boy those wires in that ribbon are small and very close together. I would love to do this though, as the body of this radio is big and takes up a lot of room. Thanks again!

 

How is your Galaxy "magnet mounted"? I saw your other post showing location and it looks great. I was trying to figure out a way to put my Cobra 29LTD up there.

 

I used to have a 108 inch whip on my silverado's toolbox haha, maybe the coma next.

 

I mounted it to the roof using the factory mounting bracket that comes with the radio and 2 big round magnets attached to the top of the bracket. I've tried multiple methods of mounting radios to the roof/headliner, but this way works the best and its cheap and easy. 2 large magnets from harbor freight and a few nuts and bolts.

no real issues, used two small carriage bolts through passenger side of console to secure bracket, Dremel out base of console and part of underneath support bracket to allow radio and connections to recess in void under console, ran coax, aux speaker wire and DC under console, which was very easy.....Dremeling out the base of the console took the longest and was messy !! Have fun...

 

Just waiting for my 3' jumper wire so I can check my SWR. Got the relentless fab driver side hood bracket, 9' fire ring coax, medium duty spring, 2' tunable tip fire stik, to go with my Cobra 75 wx st which I mounted the box under the seat with adhesive backed Velcro to the carpet. I'm not overly optimistic about the 2 foot antenna but I'm not tryin to chat up Russia either.

 

anyone know where to barrow a SWR?
