i think it would be nice to use that build dimensions but build it ported to the driver side along the bottom seam there and have the amp flush mounted over top of it up higher

There's a seat bracket right below the amp that screws things up.. the port would have to be really small, but if going for a ported sound, it might be doable.. Look cool.

My last build on my Ridgeline had a ported box. I designed it and verified that the tune on box was within 1 Hz, it had a nice sound.

All I can say is thank god for this existing hole into the cabin!!!!!!!!

Feeding the cable through this with a new grommet was cake, what was a pain was finding a good route once inside the cabin.. The clutch assembly created some challenges..

its actually possible, A few people have done it and i think they used a 3 inch port and another did 4 inch flared port '/?. I know @Ihatetacomas did this with 2 8s and has his amps mounted like i was saying

Well, the fit went pretty good, the speaker and amp placement was perfect! I have about 1/4" clearance to the backside of seat for the amp; and plenty of woofer xmax clearance as well.. Just a few little items that need to be addressed. The big grounding block makes it difficult for the box to slide into the track.

This is how it sits until I power it up and check for performance and rattles. Got some stuffing into the box, and will seal.

I've order Monstaliner.. Going to give it a shot, this will protect as well as dampen (I think)..

Next up, wiring under the hood (easy), than my focus will be speakers! Still going back and forth on front stage, trying to limit the experimenting because the fishing season is right around the corner .. ha ha

I have a custom RCA interconnect ordered that will feed the amp from the harness. And still waiting on my door baffles..

I like the box. I'm having similar ideas for mine too. Did you cut off the car seat hook behind the sub? I want to be able keep all of mine.

So, here's my speakers.. I set of vifa , TB's, and the 6.5" scan speaks.. These speakers are not expensive, but have had great reviews. Setup properly, will sound great! I didn't want to spend almost $500 dollars on Hybrids and not have them work well in the speaker locations.. Its either the TB or Vifa's..

I tore into the dash tonight, and I just can't help it, setting a speaker in the AC pocket is a PERFECT fit and will look sexy. :bananadance: The duct tunnel wraps around the vifa nicely, the AC cavity can be used as a minibox to project the lower frequencies better..

The position of the speaker is 90 degrees from the 6.5" in the doors. BUT, to the driver's ear, all speakers will be off axis. Is this good? We'll see. These speakers have good off axis linear response. In addition, being off axis, may make the sound less "in your face".. I'm just talking, I have no idea. I am concerned they are too close, I'm used to kick panels that had much better sound dispersion..

Hoping for the best. I took some measurements in the tweeter position, and fitting a 3" will be challenging (w/o cutting the dash).. Not excited about that..

IF this doesn't work or turns out that I really need all AC vents during summer months, I'll switch to a tweeter/mid format (probably a CDT ES-02) and place it in the stock dash location firing into the windshield..

i built a few 881 speakers last year. we got them to extend nicely by removing the dustcap and adding a phase plug. didn't check off axis response as we didn't have a mic at the time. not sure if they will extend as low as you want with a 0.5mm xmax.

    good luck either way!

I would caution you against using the mids in the AC vents. Cool placement for sure but I think it will really compromise the sound and here's why. When you have the blower on you'll be adding positive pressure to the back side of the cone. Thus, it's as if the speaker is in an enclosure with a lot of force acting on it. In addition to messing up the Q of the driver, you'll also run out of XMAX very quickly since the forward throw of the speaker is being pushed by the air behind it.

One way you could make that location work is by using a sealed back mid like the Dayton 2" dome. Since it's sealed back, it won't have an issue with an air behind it. I'm using these in a recent build and they measure VERY well. If you pair them with any reasonable midbass and tweeter you'll really get what you want. http://www.daytonaudio.com/index.php/rs52an-8-2-dome-midrange.html

Great build though. Those Zapco amps are the bees knees!

Enjoying the build so far. Looks like the box fits, but wow that amp takes up a lot of space. And here I thought the Audison was ridiculously big. I have been following the discussions, but I am not really sure what you're running here. Looks you are going for an active system, but with a 6 channel alone it would have to be a two-way, but you have the components for a three-way? Are you planning on adding an mono amp for the sub, or pairing the mid's into a single channel? I am not sure why you would do that, but if it is purely to get a better speaker location I wouldn't. Totally my 2 cents, but all this sound stage, on axis/off axis type stuff is kind of like putting a fresh coat of paint on a burning building. Won't do you any good worrying about this stuff, if your making compromises on the system itself. I know a lot of guys get really hung up on this kind of stuff and cut up their interiors to get that perfect "on axis" sound stage, only to find out the effect was subtle at best, and that the same thing could have been done with good electronics and stock speaker locations.

With that 6 channel and nothing else you're not going to have enough power to run three sets of components and a sub. I mean the whole reason to run active is to have better control over your individual frequency responses, and the whole reason to run three-way is to divide that mid range up even further for even more control. So adding that second mid's without a dedicated channel is only going to steal power away from that first set making both of them under perform. That mid right in your face is all your gonna hear, and I can't see how you will ever be able to flatten it out.

Not sure if this is how you're planning on running, but thought I would throw out my 2 cents before you get too far down the road. Keep us posted, enjoying it.
