Sparrow! That's the one I was trying to think of, not osprey. Sorry about the confusion @Ostrichsak I knew it was some kind of bird haha

Makes sense. Are you planning to shoot 22 mag or 17HMR? If the answer is no you can get save about $100 & still get a user serviceable suppressor that performs just as well as the Sparrow. Just don't fall for any one sales pitch from any one store or rep because there's lots of good options out there. Too many times I see someone fall for a brand with almost no history and no established reputation for longevity or customer service because someone who stood to make a buck sold them on the idea. Not saying the Sparrow is that as it's definitely a good suppressor I just say make sure you do your due diligence on NFA items because you're pretty much married to them once you buy one and if you try to rush into something or buy a 'One-size-fits-all' type solution you likely will regret this decision at some point.

And we have all seen how well Congress does their jobs for we the people.I would prefer that the politicians pay as little attention to NFA matters as possible. Most people still think Machine guns and silencers, etc. are illegal ......I hope that this is not the case with any increase in fees..

I hope you guys know how lucky you are to be able to play with those toys. I just spoke to a gun nut friend who lives in Switzerland. Out there, if you want a silencer/supressor/gun muffler you have to ask for an exception permit where you state the purpose of the purchase. The only know accepted case was the one where a bodyguard had a job where a family was involved and the justification was "to protect the kid's earing".

Nope, I will be using it for plinking and the occasional prairie dog hunt, so I will be using whatever I can find for cheap. So would you reccomend the gemtech 22 like the others have brought up?

For 22 lr rifles you can make your own silencers go to homedepot grab couple of pipes that fit your barrel tuffed the pipe with memory foam and seal both ends with plastic caps, drilled holes for both ends make sure you leave enough space in which you can slide the pipe (silencer)over your barrel. Shoot 10-20 rounds through 1-2 minutes apart then check your your silencer you should have a really nice smooth bore after the 20 rounds. Remember It's dangerous and illegal to make your own silencers so to make it and use it at your own risks.

I would go with GemTech GM22 G-Core a lot of gun shops sell them for $325-$400 and with NFA you can be out the door for under $600 bucks.......

How long does it take to get the stamp? I've done a little bit of reading around and some people are saying it can take upwards of six months

Sounds like the type of thing I should get started on ASAP. Is there a website I go to to apply or how does this work?

Just remember to check your local laws. For instance, WY didn't allow cans for prairie dog shooting (hunting at all) last time I checked.

First things first you need to find a FFL dealer with Sot or someone who sells class III items!

Dealers around our neck of the woods will be! Some will be stocking dealers some will order it once you pay for it. Which can ad 2-3 months wait if its not in stock on a form 3 however there price might be good if your willing to wait just depends what your willing to do.

    Jensen arms
    Machine gun tours
    Mile high shooting accessories
Triple8 tactical (might be getting out of the business)
    5280 armory
    Ark tactical
    Trigger time gun club
    Bear arms greely
    Damage factory
    Centennial gun club

There is more but i cant remember, make sure you call around or visit and do your homework on price like @Ostrichsak Said and which suppressor fits you. Most dealers will hover around MSRP but there are some that price under if you look hard enough. Check out http://www.silencershop.com/ texas company decent prices they have some companies willing to pay or cover your tax stamp! You will have to do the math to see if its worth your time to ship it up here and pay one of those dealers a transfer fee witch can range from 40.00-150.00. So it may be cheaper to order online and ship and wait longer than buying local just depends how long you want to wait!

Pm me if you want to ask more questions!

That's not the point. You tried to make it sound like the tax stamp increase was inevitable and part of 41F and you even had a figure & date attached to it. This is the kind of internet fear mongering we can do without.

The Gemtech is fine option. I personally went with the Pilot 2 because it was on sale at www.SilencerShop.com for only $260 shipped plus it qualified for the $200 Damn the Man rebate that AAC was doing at the time effectively making it a $60 suppressor before stamp cost. Now that it's $325 shipped from the same vendor and the Gemtech is $300 if I were buying today I may be tempted to go with the Gemtech but either one is a solid option. That being said, for only $380 with their current sale that Element 2 which can handle 22mag and 17HMR is a very solid option for only $55-80 more than either of those two options to get a magnum rated 22 suppressor. If all you want is to save money & don't care about ever shooting 22mag or 17HMR through it then the Warlock II from SilencerCo is tough to beat at $279 shipped. SiCo's customer service is also second to none in the suppressor game. Lots of options but in the end YOU are the one who is going to be married to whatever selection you make so make sure when it comes to NFA items you pick what's best for YOU and not what someone online or at a store tells you is best for you.

Suggesting anyone make any type of NFA item w/o ATF approval via $200 tax stamp is suggesting someone commit a federal felony which will earn them 10 years in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison and a whole slew of other fantastic prizes to include fines& forfeiture of rights when you return to the general populace. I suggest you keep such suggestions to yourself.

Buy once cry once I suppose. The AAC element 2 looks like a solid purchase for $363... Might have to do some shopping around and see if I can find one of those "damn the man sales". If I can get a sweet suppressor like that that even allows for Magnum rounds for less than $400 that would be amazing. The only thing that's been holding me off until now from buying one is the thought that they were gonna cost me 600-800 dollars

I'm the one who always loves to find a deal but when it comes to NFA specifically the term 'buy once cry once' definitely applies. For other firearm related things I always try several things side by side and then sell whichever I don't like but it's harder to do with NFA items.

I doubt they will do another one as it became a source of strife since their $200 rebate was for accessories on their site which was out of stock of literally EVERYTHING for more than a year. They blamed the poor timing with the acquisition by Freedom Group (Remington) and a relocation but it seemed awfully convenient to not have to deliver on the only source of the rebate they offered for their suppressors. Personally I wouldn't wait for anything. Get what you want now.

The pistol caliber and rifle caliber suppressors get spendy pretty quickly but you're probably starting right since 22LR suppressors are far less expensive and the performance differences aren't as wide. Once you get ready to buy those $600-$800 suppressors you can apply what you have learned from the smaller 22LR suppressors and make a better decision on the more expensive options.

Last I heard the wait is ~4-5 months
I submitted a form 1 2 months and 1 week ago to convert my pistol into a short barreled rifle and I figure I'm about halfway through the wait.

Do you have to pay to convert to a SBR? Or is that just something you apply for and wait?

Have to pay the 200 tax stamp, wait to receive said stamp, and then put my short upper on my registered SBR lower.

The cool thing about SBR AR15's is I can have multiple calibers and barrel lengths with one registered lower (Short barrels can only be used on the registered lower) so if I want a different configuration for different uses and don't expect to need more than one configuration at a time I only have to pay for one tax stamp.
