Yup timing is everything. My brother picked up a cruiser a few years ago for dirt cheap in october/november up here, rode for a season, then sold it in the spring for a pretty big profit.

I agree, timing is everything. With all my previous bikes, Ive been able to ride them for a season, and then sell for the same price as I got them.

Its easier then changed the chain and the second tube took me 5 mins to change out the spring. Here is what I followed, best mod yet to compliment my riding style..... So much more plushness to the front end and no more nose dives during braking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6Ixt_xv2kM

It funny to watch the helmet debate come around again, and again, and again. I am glad this one has stayed civil.

I live in a no helmet 18+ state. I believe it is about freedom of choice... and if these people choose not to wear a helmet, I don't really want them making other life choices. :D

I don't wear a helmet when I am doing a test run around my block after some bike work or if I am just going up the street to get petrol on mine or my wife's bike. The rest of the time, I am geared up.

Automotive insurance has medical coverage, your primary health insurance can deny to pay any medical bills if they are associated with a vehicle accident (each state is different, in mine they can)

We had a bill in our state senate to require you to pay a up front fee to not wear a helmet. Payable at the time of registration. In theory, insurance companies would have access to this info and raise your rates if you paid the fee. I have no idea what happened to the bill, I know it hasn't passed yet.

Even taking away the variable of wearing a helmet to protect yourself in a wreck, I don't see how people don't where a full face going over 45mph.

You are right. I saw a study that should the average area of impact/damage to motorcycle helmets. It was something like 82% of all accidents involved the chin area. My face isn't the prettiest around, but I don't want to do anything to make it worse.

Seriously. I've been hit by so much gravel and bugs I can't imagine how that shit would feel without a shield.

Not even that, getting hit in the face with a Junebug at 60 HURTS.
Took a sparrow to the facemask a couple of seasons ago; snapped my head back like I'd been hit with a cannonball. Hate to think about what it'd have done if I wore an open face (or no helmet at all)

I'm curious if in the case I was talking about if the driver of the vehicle, who was tickted for failure to yield when turning left, would be responsible for the kids death. Since this is in a no helmet state. Like how does that work? So they have to see what the cause of death actual was? Said blunt force trauma, not sure where though. I'm guessing the head.

A guy I ride with got a wasp down his jacket and inside his shirt once. By the time he pulled over and stripped the gear off it had stung him all over his chest and stomach; he looked like he had chicken pox.

    I may have laughed.

Just because you don't wear a helmet, doesn't make you responsible for an accident (at least in AZ). If another drive is found to be at fault for causing the accident, then they are liable for the death. The courts could go after them for vehicular homocide / manslaughter (That is the extreme). Of course they usually need the driver to act in malicious, be impaired, or something like that. Otherwise it is just a tragic accident. However the family could go after them in civil court.... It's crazy. Save yourself, your family, and others by simply wearing a helmet. Although that is not a guarantee, riding a bike is inherently dangerous.

I worked an accident the other day. Kid saw a shadow on the road, thought it was an animal and locked up the brakes. He was thrown off the bike. Minor shoulder injury, only scratches to the brand new bike. However, his helmet had a huge gouge out of it and his riding pants were torn to the pads. Had he not been wearing a helmet and/or wearing jeans, we would have had to helicopter him to a trauma center. He was only going 35 mph (he did this right in front of PD, so I trust the speed was right).

Just crazy to think that if he would have put a helmet on, that one little decision and he would Would more then likely still been here and all the sorrow the whole town is feeling could have been avoided.

It's easy most of the time you might have some tears for the first mile then your face dries up and you can see clear again, I have a full face helmet that I usually wear if I know the weather has a chance to be crap. But I've also rode thousands of miles helmet-less and it has its perks like being able to hear if something rattled loose or fell off, or if your bike is running right which is a pretty big deal when you're running down the interstate. I ride with and without but fully support the freedom for the riders to decide.

I actually find that wind noise is reduced when I'm wearing a helmet. And I wear earplugs too, which cuts the wind noise even further and lets me pay more attention to mechanical ones. YMMV, but I much prefer earplugs-with-helmet when I ride.

And since hearing loss runs in my family, I figure the more protection the better.

I feel ya on the hearing loss, I've been on a hearing profile since I joined the Army. I can't hear my machine with my helmet on to save my life, with it off the wind noise is pretty ferocious but i can turn my head sideways and listen to her talk though.

Yeah, my parents are both stone deaf without their hearing aids. Because of it I've been wearing earplugs when I'm on a tractor, using power tools, on the bike, etc. since I was a kid. Hopefully I can dodge the bullet. I'm 32 now and according to the tests I get every couple of years I'm in the upper end of the normal range for what I can still hear, so :fingerscrossed:
