The only reason I posted was to see if any other people with 2016 TRD sport were experiencing same issue. Toyota corporate send rep to dealer and stated this was normal. Just trying to see if indeed it was. Who better to ask then Tacoma owners? Sorry that I obviously am not navigating through the forum properly. But to be honest most responses are just jerk offs. And wtf is a troll. I have nothing better to do than try n talk people out of toyotas?? Seriously!! Get a grip. Last post from OP!!! And yes that is a Toyota

OP, I have a Sport, although all the V6 engines are the same. I have about 6000 miles on mine. It does not make that noise. I have heard the cleaning cycle tick, it does not sound like that. Try a different dealer and hopefully someone can figure that out. Does not sound like a "normal" noise a new truck should make. Good luck.

I have a noise that I was worried about as well....but after reading the self-cleaning deal, I'm pretty sure/hopeful thats what it is.

Here is video....just doesn't sound right to me honestly....and I just had it in for 5K mile service. They said..."service manager has the exact same truck, its just normal"

Tell Tacoma owners with perforated frames, that are less than 10 years old and no warranty, "It's because the trucks are bulletproof compared to others and will last forever" and I have a feeling they would disagree with you.

So.....normal engine noise that sounds terrible or something that you would be concerned about? I'll test it more later this evening, but I let it run for a bit there was no sign of it shutting off....

There were a group of trucks that had problems that for the most part Toyota is repairing. For every whiner on this site, there are 10 people who like their trucks. No need to be a d-bag.

Is the sound similar to a clackty clack, you know spinning a game wheel that is super duper on steroids?
I ask for my truck (not a 3GEN) has made this noise and it sounds similar to videos posted not as loud.
Have been told it was normal too by dealer. Worse in cold temps.
I know this probably doesn't help you. My 2013 V6 truck is now at 54k
I wish the best for all involved. I hate hearing it in mine.

I didn't mean to be a "d-bag", the reason I replied to your post, is that Toyota knows it has defective frames on the 2005-2008 Tacoma's, but will not extend the warranty like they did on the 1995-2000 and 2001-2004 Tacoma's and if they are so "bulletproof and last forever", why hasn't Toyota fixed the problem they have had with defective frames the last 13 years?

Mine sounds the same...all the time, not just stop light idle/drive-thru idle like the article referenced above.

If Toyota says it's "normal", someone should be able to tell us WHAT it is, if nothing less than for our future attorneys sake.

5k check coming up and I'll have them make note of it then at minimum, for documentation purposes.

THANK YOU. I've been reading about the atkinson cycle and the direct and port injection and how the injectors clean themselves and it should shut off....but i cant say i've ever heard it shut off. Other than the weak sauce engine (that I actually LOVE when the ECT is on), I love the truck.

I can change oil and brakes but I'm definitely not an engine savvy guy. Didn't want this to be something that I really need to fight with them about and not do so.[/QUOTE]

Depends on how I drive. Its not supposed to start until the engine gets warm, and 90% of my driving is to work and back home, which is only 2.3 mile each way, so it rarely even gets to full operating temp.

Mine sounded like that, never worried about it as its under warranty lol! Actually truck has 8500 miles on it now and sounds fine. I do however hear something in rear of truck buzzing when truck is off sometimes.

Mine does once I take off and start driving again. If I start the truck cold, I don't hear it. Once it gets the temps built back up, it'll turn on when I stop at red lights, drive thrus, gas station or anywhere. It doesn't have a preference as to where I stop when it comes on. It turns back off though once I start taking off. From what I've read and heard about when it first came out was the cleaning cycle kicking in during idles. It waits until the truck is warmed up though for it to start. I've rolled the windows down and idles beside buildings to hear it and started driving, slowly of course, and it would turn back off until I stopped again.
