    Thanks for the offer! I have a 01-04 front end so I do not think it will work. Thanks though

    Made some progress on my little display that I am going to install in the blank slot in my dash between the driver side center air vent and the hazard light switch. I am designing/building/programming it myself, it'll show data like instant MPG, average MPG, fuel consumption, engine load, etc. True, there is stuff out of there already, but this is also a fun project for me.

    I like your idea! I use that sport for a phone mount and run Torque.

    I would love to build a tube one but don't have a bender and didn't think it make that huge of a difference between the two but I guess so.. So I guess I'll go look up videos how to do that also...if you have any videos or pictures without a bender of one that looks good let me know k tyvm

    I actually have Torque as well, awesome application. However, I don't like tying up my phone with it constantly. So I am making this thing.

    I'm also cheap, this thing is gonna cost me less than $15-20 in parts. I cut out the middle man and order my stuff directly from China. Takes a month to get here, but I don't have much free time, so I can wait.

    Where do you get the signal/info for the mpg display? Are you polling the ECU or something to get fuel usage rates? Also is this a wide band gauge?

    Some more info can be found on my project page for it. Basically, to poll sensors, I have a cheap bluetooth OBD adapter that I connect to using a HC-05 bluetooth radio. I intend to calculate MPG based on MAF ( Mass Air Flow ) and speed for now, as I have heard it gives *mostly* accurate results. The Tacoma's ECU doesn't give me fuel flow rate or injection timings. I am also considering tapping into the wiring of my fuel gauge so that I can read a direct value from the tank. An advantage of talking to the fuel sender would be the ability to display a remaining fuel percentage and estimated distance until empty. However, the fuel sender has some limitations, such as when it reaches full or empty; the sender arm can not detect every drop of fuel if you top off the tank, nor is it likely able to detect less than a certain amount when the tank is near empty. Even considering these limitations, I think it would still be beneficial to at least attempt.

    Also, I am not familiar with the term "wide band"?

    @Gary3

    I think 'wideband' refers to a high data rate from the sensor. After market tachometers and fuel air mixture sensors are wideband I think in order to have a realtime display.

    In that case, theoretically my device can update as fast as the adapter and vehicle you give it. Embedded systems have little overhead and I programmed it to poll the moment it has received the last response. Tempted to try it on my parents' cars, their cars are post 2008, so they should use the CAN standard and give me data MUCH faster.
