Initially, this thing looked fun, but how many times did he point that barrel at his own gut trying to fold it back up or put his hand in front of the barrel? Something that I'm not 100% sure where the business end is, is something that I'm not willing to tango with.

One of several problems is I'm left eye dominant, vision sucks (in need of another eye exam) and I'm normally left handed. I shoot right handed but focusing with my right eye is a PITA for me. I'm going to look at the Geissele SSA trigger for it and after that (and new glasses) I'll step up the yardage. All in all, after getting the sights set I mustered this group at 25 yards. What's 475 more!

These won't be around long. It's a gun you stuff in the back of the safe with the original paperwork in the original box for 20 years.

I'd probably grab one just for that reason...except I can throw $400 away for far better things...$200 maybe...

Yea, I'd rather have a Zip-22 to show off in 20 years though. Takes 10/22 mags, plus you can mount it to a picatinny rail so you can be super tacticool with a 25rnd 22lr "thing" on the bottom rail of your AR.

But still that thing for $400..meh.

Not bad at all. I'm right eye dominant, I'm left handed but I mostly shoot right handed but once in a blue moon I'll switch to left hand. I just love shooting long distance but optics to still fun so I can't hate :)

@HBGIBBY that was kinda my point just shoot a .22. Cheaper and less recoil ( cuz i would bet in that little thing even 380s would have some snap) a .44 mag in a 1" barrel is just more than useless.

They're not, most local agencies are either Glock or M&P (both striker fired, which is not DAO) if the agency supplies the firearms.
If you supply your own some departments have a list of brands/models that they approve and some only have a list that they will not approve.

Federal agencies usually issue Sig 226/229's if I remember which can be SA/DA or DAO.

I've got a S&W 5906 that I picked up as a LEO trade-in. It's DA/SA, but the department that was getting rid of them was moving to Glocks. Wish I'd had enough to buy two of the trade-in's; that 5906 is my absolute favorite gun to shoot. The trigger reset in SA mode is sex.

What would be the benefits of converting the DAO to a sa/da?

SA's generally have cleaner trigger pulls and faster resets, which can help accuracy and speed. DA's have the sort-of advantage of a 'second strike' on a primer and many can be safely carried with a round chambered and the safety off (most don't even have a conventional safety at all) because of their heavy trigger pull.
DA/SA's are the best of both worlds, in my opinion (highlighted because there's many who disagree), letting you carry chambered and 'unsafetied' (typically they have a decocker that also blocks the hammer from striking the firing pin) but then switching over to a faster reset & lighter pull after the initial round has been fired.

As for converting, I'm the lazy sort. For me it wouldn't be worth it to convert a DAO to a DA/SA because of the price and effort generally involved. I'd rather just add to my collection and buy a DA/SA gun instead, lol.
