I do still drive it a fair amount, so I compromised and went with a detroit truetrac, which if you look at the operation of it, its really a LSD and less of a locker but should still be better than open. I wanted a arb or a elocker, but this one came along for a really good price so I went with it. Can always change it if I don't like it.

Yes! Exactly! I was on the fence until I heard you could do that with the ebrake. Should have the third member back from the shop tomorrow to put into the truck. For the price of if, I figured I would let someone that knows what they are doing put the new unit into the third member. I just pulled it and took everything into them.

I didn't think you had to screw with preload or backlash to put in a trutrack. But I could be wrong. I didn't think you did anything with the carrier. I don't know much about the trutrack or autolockers though. ARB or nothing for me!

You don't need friction modifiers for a welded rear-end either............

Well, from what I read, I should have been able to just mark it all, take it apart, and put it back together and set the adjusters the same, but I have little experience with gears. Someone was into that rearend at some point and set up the adjusters with a non soft chisel.. and the backlash isn't consistent through the rear end according to my quick check last night with a dial indicator. You just have to tear the rearend down far enough to remove the ring gear from the old carrier, and put it on the truetrac from what I understand.. Its not quite a drop in, like a lunchbox locker would be.

Theres a good gear shop 5 minutes from my house so I took it there for piece of mind, I would have spent way too much time wondering if I was doing it right.

heres what I have looks like. Kinda neat how its all worm gears and no clutches.

Ah by the looks of it you replace the whole Carrier. It is neat though!
