I'm just thinking you're putting the power strip in the same way as your original post. Maybe I'm not understanding the original though but if a hot wire can get punched resulting in a fire hazard who's to say a power strip can't do the same.

Because of fire harazard. The cord is not Shielded with metal.
    Correct.
Pluging a power strip or any cord and putting in a drawer is against building code.

    Morning guys

What if you designed some crazy contraption where you have a metal rod attached to the drawer that slides over a metal strip to give the drawer power, kind of like those little track RC cars that have little pistol controllers? No cord involved haha

    :thumbsup::rofl:
Well fuck. I'm not even an electrician.

Which reminds me, when I moved into my house I asked them to put overhead lights in so they ran it with conduit (i assume that's code since it's covered) but for some reason they ran the flex conduit for the light switch (the grey flex type of pipe) right over the pegboard where I hang the dog leashes and stuff.

this is a very debatable subject. theres nowhere in the codebook that says you can't do it. its a gray area. not all cords have to be shielded with metal for fire hazards. its a flexible cord, same as an extension cord. we had a big discussion about this at work today and we all came to the conclusion that it is legal just not recommended

It is not legal! I promise you this. I have been called multiple times on it.
This is what is legal. Docking drawer. Ill see if i can find a link.
Although i agree with your guys conclusion. It is not legit as far as Orange County is concerned.

Looks good seeing as the wire isn't hanging freely and able to get snagged. It's tucked in with the mechanism/arm that pivots horizontally.
Crazy expensive though. I'm sure they cornered the shit out of the market.
We install power/data ports in our furniture and the price on same of that shit is insane.

i know this is probably annoying by now but i still say legal. one of my foreman did a couple jobs where they put these in like the picture and the city inspector approved it. i don't know how orange county is but its legal in LA

What company are you with again?
    I still say not legal.
It could've been a lazy inspector.
We've installed floor to ceiling glass walls in private offices and one inspector signed off on the manufacturer specs of using tapcons to attach it to the floor but a year later they got popped and we had to go back and install KHEZ or KBTZs.

I'd like Bryan's thoughts as well.
    Banned uses
In 400.8, the NEC lists specific types of uses that are not permitted for flexible cords and cables [400.8]. Unless specifically allowed in 400.7, flexible cords must not be:

    • Used as substitutes for the fixed wiring of a structure.
    • Run through holes in walls, structural ceilings, suspended or dropped ceilings, or floors.
    • Run through doorways, windows, or similar openings.
    • Attached to building surfaces.
    • Concealed by walls, floors, or ceilings — or located above suspended or dropped ceilings (Fig. 3).
    • Installed in raceways, except as permitted elsewhere in the NEC.
    • Used or installed in a manner that unduly exposes them to physical damage.
