Don't believe so. There are areas that are protected at lower elevations (manzanita and scrub brush areas). I do know fires are not permitted during the summer and fall, when it is dry.

I'll try my best. But someone must bring some single malt scotch as a tour guide fee. Hehe

I am going up there Saturday or Sunday to let the new tenants into our cabin. I will scope it out. Do we want to camp down by the creek or up where we camped last time. Technically where we camped last time is a designated group site, we got lucky. It must be booked in advance. I also went down some trails last weekend that I haven't done in years. Rough stuff that I barely could make even with the locker.

Yeah if you don't mind scoping it out that'd be great.
I thought black mountain had yellow post camping? If not we could go to dark canyon or fern. I do want to see (in the daylight) that one spot we all drove down to by the creek but there was people there. Looked like a cool spot

They close Black mountain during the winter as too many people were getting stuck. We just camped at the group area (Which is yellow post). Dark canyon is nice, fern not so much. The spots by the creek are my favorite, the creek is really beautiful. It is still pretty cold up there at night.

Yeah Thomas Mtn. could be an option but last resort as the views and scenery are not as good as others.

There are 7 spots on Thomas if memory serves. All big and pretty flat.

Kind of crude screen shot, but do you know of any spots along azalea trail? We could take part of black mt to azalea to find a spot or just drop down into dark canyon and see if there's spots there

I wouldn't mind checking out your creek spot first tho, since you swear by it :)

I'm going to try to get that Friday off but if not I'll be coming in under the cover of darkness. So finding you all will prove to be interesting

Azalea is a hiking trail that meets up with PCT. It is also a street name in Idyllwild.
