Stopped by my dealer yesterday, explained the problem, and gave them the TSB number. They hemmed and hawed, claiming they can't just do TSBs based on customer requests. They say they have to perform a diagnosis and then apply the TSB *if* necessary.

I'm not particularly thrilled with this behavior, but made an appointment for next week regardless. Will report back with results.

Dealership's Service Advisor called me on Wednesday and asked that I bring in my 2010 Tacoma to have the ECU reflashed per TSB 0393-09 to correct the transmission issue. When I arrived they took the truck straight back into the service bay and 30 minutes later it was fixed! Just came back from the dealership after having the ECU updated. Even took a couple of detours to locations where in the past where I experienced the shifting problems. No repeat events today! Looks like the Toyota engineers fixed the problem!

not to many, love it the way it is
Has anyone had the tranny problem come back after having the tsb done? I think mine has come back, revving in the low gears again and going into the next gear hard etc...I floored the truck getting on the freeway 4 days after getting the tsb and started noticing it gradually coming back after doing that. It was so nice for a few days, now not so much. When I can I will go back to the dealer and get a reflash if they will do it again

Has anyone had the shifting problem TSB performed on a 2010 at a dealership in North Carolina? If so where?? I have a 2010 and at the dealership where I bought it from I'd have to fight to get it done there!!

I had a similar issue. I called the day before I had an appointment for other service (20k) and asked if they could do the TSB. The person on the phone said it was no problem.

I arrived the next day and got the first available service "manager" and asked if he needed the TSB. He acted as if he didn't know I was scheduled to have the ECU reprogrammed. I then gave him the run down, with a copy of the TSB. He followed up with the question of, "why". As in, "why do you want it done"...which he actually did ask me. I explained that I experienced the hard shifting in 2nd gear and the associated "dump bump" when sitting at a stop light. In the end, they did the TSB and gave me little flak. However, my bill states: "customer requests ECU reprogramming to address hard shifting. Customer also knows about the TSB.".

So if I didn't know or have the TSB in hand, would they have given me the run around? Who knows. the point is, it all depends on who you talk to I think. It was a great example of how two different service "managers" in the same dealership had two different attitudes/approaches to addressing the TSB.

The TSB itself made a world of difference. No more lag when going around corners or when taking off from a quick stop! AND I haven’t felt the “bump” when sitting idle at a stop light any either! Now the truck drives great and I have confidence I can quickly get through an intersection or accelerate out of a cornering turn if/when I need to.

I had the TSB done on my 2010 on Friday, Dec 11th. The transmission shifting while driving is much smoother now. However, have any of you guys that had the TSB done noticed a drop in your MPG??? Driving the truck this past weekend it seemed as though the gas gauge was moving faster towards the empty mark. I havent actually calculated it yet though. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this???

Reporting back in after the dealer performed the TSB on my 2010. As other have reported, there's a noticeable improvement in shifting even on the straightaway in stop-n-go traffic.

May be the transmission does learn your driving style after all. I shifts slower due to the agressive driving. If that's the case, I think it will change again when you take it easier. Regardless, I don't lilke the "learning" feature of the transmission. Emergency reactions on the car are not the same as the same routine driving which the car is "programmed" to react.

By the way, I had Miller Toyota in Anaheim did the tsb and they knew what it was. Only thing is it took them 2 1/2 hr to do vs. 0.6 as what was written on the invoice. The invoice also said "recall"

Just got it done at Right Toyota here in town.
They just checked the Vin. and it was listed on the TSB which I checked before going.
Less than an hour and they gave my truck a wash that it needed.
    So far so good!!

I thank everyone that kept pushing this and made Toyota take note of the problem!!!

    You guys are great:D
