It's a joke, because Toyota focuses on those damn mats so much... they are supposed to check them EVERY 5,000 miles... All the other shit they do for the 5000 check is total crap. Not worth your time taking it to them... Read what they will actually check.... I do that shit weekly myself..!!

Gotcha. I thought maybe there was a known issue or something. I would be PISSED if they decided they needed to cut my floor mat to make my truck safer.

NO, I'm just pointing out that THE only thing that you may want to go in for that service is a tire rotation....That's really all you get out of it. PLUS, if you need washer fluid they will charge you their rate for it... It's all visual check stuff...!! There is a list of what they check in your book ... Should read it before going so you know what to expect.... they will not check Tranny/Diff/oil change/grease U joints, etc... you know, the stuff that really does matter..

A standard oil analysis at this lab is $28:

I assume others are similarly cheap. I'd probably do an oil analysis at 5k, then determine whether to change to oil sooner than 10k based on the results of the analysis. No sense relying on some 'gut feeling' about how often to change your oil; let data guide your decision.

I have read countless threads on whether to oul change before 10k or not. Etc...

Lets continue this debate. I will check back on the progress on April 1, 2021.

Your observations seem to be misunderstood. You can not miss the last service due to not enough miles. Oil will be changed at 10k miles, or 1 year, whichever comes first. With that in mind, you will still get an oil change at 2years, no matter if you only have 1000 miles on it.
Your other observation, all vehicles will get 4 services, every 6 months. The service before first oil change and between next oil changes is touch up service.(check fluids and rotate tires). So, no one misses out due to they don't have the mileage.

Please re-read my post, for understanding.
    I will try rewording it:
The free maintenance service ends at two years, or 25,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
My post was intended to let low-mileage drivers know they can schedule an early maintenance service visit, so they can get all the free visits taken care of before the two year time limit expires.

I neither intended, stated nor implied that anybody would miss opportunities for service purely because of low mileage.

Why not just stick to Toyota recommendations? I love these oil change threads, the old school guys still believe in the 3000 miles 3 month intervals.
Also, it is dealer dependent. Not all dealers will stray from the guidelines.

It's a waste of time even discussing it with people. People can't accept the fact that there are advances in engineering and technology that allow better performance from lubrications, filters, and engines. People will say, "I'll never do that, I've always changed it at 3000 miles (or whatever interval)," and ignore the fact that manufacturers pay teams of engineers a lot of $ to research, develop, test, re-test, and design better systems that perform more efficiently and reliably than stuff from even 10 years ago. There is no big conspiracy for manufacturers to develop engines that blow up magically after your warranty is up. Trust me, I am one of those engineers and at no point does a, "hey, make sure this shit breaks after 60k miles," discussion ever occur. Yet, despite all the hard work and $ that goes into development, people who literally have no clue what they are talking about or any experience designing and developing these things will still say, "well, in my experience it's best to do this." Why? Because they've changed the oil more frequently than recommended, and some how mysteriously the engine doesn't explode? Wow, I wonder why ... If people want to waste their $ it's their choice, and hell, if it makes them feel better then I guess it's not really a waste. Just don't bother trying to convince them of how wrong they are.

Its true, back in the previous century oil changes were at 3,000 mile interval when oil weight were 20-40w and 10-30w. We have move to the 21st century and the oil weights are 0-20 for most if not all new cars. My old Frontier used 10-30w. My wife and daughter newer cars uses the newer and more expensive 0-20w oil. Just about all the newer car using 0-20 have 10,000 oil change intervals. But Trucks and sports cars may still have 5,000 intervals because these vehicles tend to be driven in harsher conditions.
My new 2017 Tacoma maintenance log show no oil change at 5,000 but at 10,000. However, the oil change may be done under "Special Operating Conditions".
Nevertheless, they should change the oil at 5,000 because of the break in period for new engines. I plan to in 6 months, since I know I won't reach 5,000 by that time. Just tell them the truck is used to carry heavy items and/or towing.
