How much should I expect to get on a trade for my '16 TRD Sport 4x4?

I think I've decided to part ways with my new TRD Sport 4x4. As mentioned in a previous thread I'm pretty unhappy with the way the dealerships have dealt with my transmission issues and after calling Toyota Customer Service about it and being told that there's nothing they can do either, this is most likely going to be my first and last Toyota. With that said, I understand I'm going to take a hit on trading in the vehicle, but curious to know what I should expect as a ballpark figure to get for it. It's a 2016 TRD Sport 4x4 with tow package, predator tube steps, chrome exhaust tip, hood decal, OEM bed mat, all weather floor mats and an ARE Z-Series shell, brand new BFG KOA2's and stock TRD Sport wheels, 6,000 miles on the truck. In addition to the ARE Z-Series shell I also have the stock/OEM Tonneau cover.

 

You will take the biggest hit the first 3 years. Especially with the tires, top, accessories. Those just don't raise resale. Check nada for most accurate info. You will take a hit with trade in value, accessories bought, taxes and registration. Good luck

Sell the accessories separate.

I'm just tired of a truck with a transmission that feels and operates like shit because of the transmission and the company that makes the truck tells me theres nothing they can do about it. Also the fact atet they seem to be ignoring the group of us who are having issues makes me want to have nothing to do with the company.

 

You will probably do better selling with a dealer or private party that doesn't frequent TW.

 

i'd pull all that stuff off, and put the tonneau back on. none of it will put any $$ back in your pocket at the dealer.

as @DCSBFTMFW typed out, $5k loss or so. in November, i lost $2k on a 2015 that was 2mos old.

 

I spent 33k on my 15 Sport before taxes
Sold it @ just under 10k miles for 29 even at a Chrysler dealership.

 

RIP, another 3rd Gen casualty.

What you going to get instead?

 

Going back to a Subaru Outback. I've had 2 Subarus in the last 10 years and never had an ounce of trouble with either, and beat the crap out of them. From Colorado to NYC to Southern and Northern California, desert, mud, snow ice, towing may moe than I should, packed to the gills and overloaded, the Rubies have never complained or given me any issues. And the company apparently listens to it's customs and even if they mean it or not, they give off the impression that they actually care. Cant say i got that treatment from Toyota.

 

I really wanted an Outback before I bought my Tacoma and now Ram but I just couldn't ever see myself driving one. I just like the idea I guess.

 

Is there a problem with the transmission and Toyota won't fix it or are you just unhappy with the way it drives and want something else?

I'm just curious if there's an actual problem with truck like the transmission has been worked on / replaced or its just you complained about how it operates and the dealerships are telling you it's functioning properly but you're still not happy.

 

I'd still be in an Outback if they were the last body style (more wagon, less crossover). New ones feel quite large. i do miss that gas mileage, though. and the confidence of AWD.

 

Dont worry i have a 2015 with under 10,000 hate the suspension issues i have planning in selling mine if lemon law fails. Same reason Toyota wont fix my issue. My family has owned Toyotas for years no problem. This is my first and last toyota too, planning on moving to Ford.

Many people on this forum are experiencing the same problems you are having. A lot of this may be tied to a drivers driving habits. For instance do you use cruise control while driving? Are you driving hilly mountain roads as opposed to flat surfaces. It has been reported here that this type of driving impacts the way the transmission operates. Also many people have taken their trucks back due to low transmission fluid levels. A few people have also disconnected the battery for at least 4 hours and noticed improved transmission performance upon reconnecting the battery. I test drove two gen3 for about 30 minutes or so through business roads and highway These roads were flat surfaces and I did not use cruise control and the trucks seem fine.

Taking a 5000 hit would hurt me and if you have not tried some of the above I would so before taking the 5000 hit route. Good luck

 

I'm going to call bullshit to attributing it to the drivers habits. I don't use cruise control. I've never heard of a brand new truck turning into a pile of shit because the driver drives up and down mountain roads, passes, etc. and uses cruise control. If that was the case the truck shouldn't have come with cruise control in the first place and should have come with a disclaimer from Toyota that their truck isn't made to drive in the mountains.

 

What is wrong with your suspension?

 

I just telling you what other owners have been experiencing with some of these trucks. Read some of the other threads It appears the some people are experiencing transmission problems tied to various reasons and a few of these reasons were tied to user driving habits and cruise control. Just read some of the other threads

 

You should file suit against Toyota for selling a defective truck. Maybe enough owners are out their for a class action.
