I have liked the 2012 up base model urethane steering wheel since seeing one on a friend's truck. I like the perforated stuff and the hand hold spots. My wheel was just oem rubber one that comes on 08 so this project does not include using any audio or fon controls on steering wheel. So I checked a few things out and went for it. Clockspring is same from 05-14. Same cruise control stalk. Same column spline match. Mates up to column cover just like the 08. Very importantly, the airbag terminals/plugs are compatible. This might not be cheapest way to get parts needed but this is how things played out......Scored 2013 complete wheel including controls for $125 shipped. Great shape with no smoothing of the grain anywhere, fresh. Scored the plain black "ornaments" for each side of airbag for $80 shipped for the pr. The wheel was supposed to have both side covers but somehow I didn't end up with the one that goes on the cc stalk side. Went ahead and scored both sides new for $18 shipped. The wheel I scored had all necessary hardware to assemble new pieces. Oh yeah, important, lol, scored the airbag/cover in perfect shape off that chinese online place for $150 shipped. $350 - $600 was norm everywhere else I looked. Junkyard may be cheaper for all this I know but you have to have luck and time to go chase it down. I'm short on free time so it cost me more than possible to score it all. Here's how it turned out..........

thanks.....was trippin on airbag plugs, clockspring & cc stalk being the same but it all plugged up. Must be half a spline different from the other wheel because new wheel is barely off right of center but that can be straightened after I put my LR UCAs on and have alignment done. I tried moving wheel 1 spline left but it was worse like that.

That came out very nice. I'm kinda interested in this as I have an 05 and have always been jealous of the new models.

Sorry to hear about the loss of one of your hands. I still have 2. It only takes one to steer with and 1 can honk if need be. I do like that wheel you have.

Due to circumstances surrounding the availability of the back cover without buying a whole wheel to get it....I have an extra 2012 wheel complete except the side covers that go around the cc stalk and plain one on other side. Those are like $4 each. It has the silver fon and audio controls instead of the plain black ornaments and no airbag. I will be making a FS thread shortly and will part out controls and wheel if people want or just do whole thing. I scored the airbag/horn assembly off the Chinese online place for $150 where they were all $350 - 600 elsewhere.

So do you have to buy a new airbag for it? can you not take the old air bag and pop it into the new steering wheel and pop the cover on?

    No, they are different shapes............

    2005-2011..........

    2012-2016

Oh, not sure if air bag part numbers are same, mounting points the same or if they are same size/shape on the inside. Never really compared that closely. Based on the differing size/shape of that part of the wheel, I am guessing non-transferable but I could be wrong. I do know that the clockspring connections to the airbags for both are the same.

I knew the cover was different, I was talking about the actual airbag unit. Sorry, I worded my post a little ambiguously

I have a 2014 wheel coming. Did you check with Toyota on the airbag compatability?
I'm doing the switch on my 2007.

I didn't, I just bought the cover/bag for 2013 and plugged it into my spiral cable. I don't know if the bags from 05-11 and 12 and up are same.
