Truck is still at the dealer since they had to send it to a repair shop for some bad scratches. Haven't even seen it in person yet. Apparently it happened on the hauler truck. I asked them to check the atf and they told me they couldn't because the transmissions are sealed that they can't just tear it apart to check. What am I supposed to tell these idiots?

I'm going to talk to the service manager and if he tells me they can't then I will tell him to. I mean dang, do I need to print out the instructions of the atf check procedure and show them? Could use a link to them if it's available, haha.

It seems that way with most dealers...."after you paid them"... if "before" then they will lick your boots..!!

Go talk to the sales mgr, then the general mgr if that doesn't work.
You actually could refuse to take the truck based on the transportation damage, and the refusal to perform a fluid check that is supposed to be part of the dealer prep!
    Get your differentials checked too!

I was on my way to the dealer yesterday to buy and pick it up which is about an hour drive. Half way there they call and tell me the truck isn't there and is having scratch damage repaired at a shop. I figured what the hell and still went and took care of all the paperwork and paid for it. Said they would delivery it to me tomorrow but I would rather see it in person at the dealer before I take it home. Not sure what my options are while it's at the dealer and I've already signed the sales contract.

I asked them to check the diff levels and grease all the zerks and make sure the u bolts are the correct torque. Will see tomorrow hopefully if they did all the work or not, including the ATF check! I told them to foot the bill for transportation to their dealer tomorrow too. Waiting to hear back from them, lol.

I DID get the platinum warranty with 7 years and 100k for about 1400, but it doesn't cover paint. I'm also headed to San Diego so I doubt another dealer would honor another dealers warranty like that, but I digress.

Could someone kindly link me to a guide or manual on how to check the atf levels? May end up having to do it myself and I couldn't find one in a search.

Did you get it from Toyota? Like official an official Toyota extended warranty, because if you did you could go to any dealer

I'm having delayed shifting from reverse to drive from a cold start. Took to dealer. @gearcruncher I can't seem to upload the links for the "how to" check and fill the transmission you provided

It's called the platinum warranty and I think it's through Fidelity. So is it a warranty that toyota uses for its official warranty?

    A few minor things...
I went through hell and back with all of the dealerships near my work (North Shore MA) and they all blew me off. I finally went to my dealership (closer to home) which is inconvenient but the service manager came and spoke with me.

I explained my situation and said I've been having a great time in the truck but I have some worries.

    1) The transmission problem I have been hearing about has me worried and I would like you to check the ATF level please.
    2) The Rear axle U-Bolts were barely tight. I tightened them myself because I was worried that something would break. Please check the torque
    3) I had to grease the U-Joints on the drive shafts myself.

He said that he has heard of all of these problems and that they will gladly check my ATF. I left my truck overnight and they called my by 10am the next morning with news that my truck was 1 1/2 quarts low on ATF. One and a half quarts low. I asked if any damage had been done and they said there was no material on the magnetic drain plugs, no discoloration of the original fluid, no burned smell, and no error codes so most likely it will be fine.

I have this all in writing because i've driven 3000 miles like this. I am going to call corporate today and request an extended warranty to cover future damage caused by this lack of QC coming out of the factory. I get that the dealership has limited time when prepping a new car and sealed components should be to spec from the factory so I won't drag them into this.

Be courteous and kind to the human behind the desk and use words like

"delayed engagement from park to reverse or drive"
    "ambiguous shifting in higher gears"
    "delayed shifting"
    "slipping"

and you should get the service right away (especially with a new truck.

UNLESS YOU'RE A MECHANIC DO NOT CHECK THE FLUID YOURSELF. HAVE THE DEALERSHIP CHECK IT FOR YOU!

It's a pain in the ass for the average Joe and some dealerships will definitely check it for you.

Anyone in the greater (north) Boston area, I bought my truck from Atlantic Toyota and had the service done there. I spoke with Rick DiDonato. He was understanding, professional, and very easy to work with. If anyone is in the area I strongly recommend giving them a call and asking to speak with Rick.

    Good Luck!

    PS: Fuck IRA toyota.

1/4 quart low. Big thanks to Peterson Toyota for being cool about it and checking it free of charge, under warranty. Still have a slight delay from R to D, but not bad. My main concern was the early switch from 2 to 1 while coasting. That seems to be more smooth now.

I have a DCSB TRD OR 4X4 with tow package and I had been experiencing the same issues reported on the forums here and having had a car with Trans fluid level issues in the past, was easily able to recognize the symptoms. Shortly after taking delivery of the truck, I'd scheduled an appt to have the fluid level looked at. Long story short, the service desk worker blew me off like so many 9n here have reported their dealerships doing. I contacted some higher ups at the dealership about it and another issue and they took it in to look at it. All under warranty as it should be.

Lo and behold, the service receipt says they had to open two qts (I don't know if they actually used all 2 qts) of tranny fluid to bring it to proper level. Now it shifts up and down way smoother, little to no hesitation from Reverse to Drive, etc...

It is BS that we as paying customers are getting such a bad experience from the factory and especially the dealers for something so basic but vital to our vehicle's operation. All I can say is keep fighting for what you're owed.

I think the built in USA and Mexico polls are irrelevant if it's the dealer that is suppose to check and fill during pdi.

You should change it to just

    Yes it's Low
    Or
    No it's not

But regardless this is crazy with the amount of people driving like this.

I drove 3200 miles, there are many people out there not on this forum and their transmission is probably getting toast as we speak
