Mobtown Offroad Bolt On Tailgate Reinforcement Plate for 2016+ Tacoma

Ok Joe, caught up with you again (guess I will have to follow both threads). Still waiting for an update on the 2016 cap and curious
to know what your shipping plans are. I placed the first replacement skin order on March 21st and was advised that it would be
shipped on the 23rd. Now I guess it will be around the first of the month. Maybe you will be able to ship both the things and stuff together!

 

Patiently waiting for the release date and price of the Tailgate cap. If the final product is anything like your other
mods, I am confident I will be ecstatic upon receipt. I an very pleased with my bed storage areas' security doors.

 

Sorry for the delay fellas. I mispoke earlier when saying skins were in stock. I use another vendor to make them because of the high volume. Unfortunately he shipped us the wrong ones... He is rushing them through now, we hope to have them in a couple days. Once we have them, I will ship. We don't have the cap done yet either. Also, I don't see them shipping together. Theyre much larger than the skin as far as width so boxing together won't be a safe option.

 

Understand and thanks for the info. I am patient and would rather it be done right than rushed. I don't plan on going anywhere
any time soon. IIRC when you first posted the idea of a replacement skin & tailgate cap for 3rd gens you indicated that you did
not think you would be in a position to ship before April 18th, which looks good to me. I am just curious about what the actual
price for the cap will be. I have enjoyed following both threads.

Makes sense. Glad you guys considered it! Yours look more flat versus the stock plastic one. I've had a few spills of drinks, jelly, and such as the ribs aren't suited well for setting anything on.

 

Bump. What's the ship date?

 

Hoping mid week next week. Parts that were run and shipped to us were wrong. They're running the new ones now. Was told they'll be ready beginning of next week.

 

Does the hardware pack come with black screws and washers like the ones on the truck already?

 

No, it replaces the factory screws and plastic inserts with zinc plated steel button head bolts, flat washers and rivet nuts.

 

I don't recall reading this (unless I missed it in another thread), but can this skin be installed under the existing plastic if we want? If so, what modifications are necessary to make that happen?

When are you going to get some vinyl stickers?

Cool, looks good... but does that also work with the all ribbed 2016 version? Or it won't work with that one? There wasn't a "smooth" option when ordering a few weeks back.

 

Yup, works with the ribbed. We aren't going to be offering the smooth skins anymore. Once our stock of smooth skins for the 2nd gens are gone, the smooth will be forgotten. They just aren't that popular. We sell about 25-1 ribbed to smooth. We still have 30 smooth of a batch of 50 we ran about 6 months ago.

 

Ok sounds good. Anymore word on when the 3rd gen skins are going to ship?

 

Sad that the smooth skin is discontinued.

The ribs are nice, but catch on everything being slid on the tailgate, especially heavy items. The smooth finish allows items to slide so much easier, and are less expensive.

Wonder what others have experienced?

 

Is this still set to ship middle of this week? I've been putting heavy loads on my tailgate and hoping for the best.

 

I really hope so. I contacted my powder coater today and he said they won't be done tomorrow like he originally promised. I will update all once I have them in hand.
