I have a new 2010 DC OR (Pyrite Mica)....love it. Anyone have a remote start installed by Toyota? I was quoted 350 installed at the dealership. Is this worth it or should I shop around?

I had them include mine when I purchased so not sure on cost. If it is cold where you live it's worth it.
Manual transmission vehicles will cost more than an automatic because of the extra safe guards they have to wire up.

If it's anything like here, if you go to "toyota" to get it installed they just pass it on to one of the local shops anyways. I'm sure Toyota tacks on a bit for them being the middle man. I'd shop around. Just make sure the shop is reputable, a bad starter or install can create so many problems...

I would go aftermarket for sure. Any DEI product is a plus for security if you want an alarm with remote start. I believe viper remote start systems start at about $350. A viper alarm with remote start starts around $450. So $350 for remote start from the dealer is a good price but you will benefit from a DEI product for warranty, quality, features, and ease of use. Im not sure what you will get from the dealer but you might benefit from seeing what a local alarm shop can offer you.

tough call with new key sensor and remote start... plus always concerned how the shops cut up and tap wires... a lot of folks have no idea what they are doing under the hood and we pay them, the alarm techs, to go slice things up.

Had a Compustar starter installed by dealer. Didnt get the 2-way, i figured if the truck is too far to start, what good would it be for the remote to tell that. Went with the longer range 1-way. and i have been very inpressed on how far i have got the truck to start from. Plus i love the starter remote unlocks all the door with just one click. Plus the hard wired around the chipped key, not just hide the valet key like cheap installs.

$350 was for the remote starter & install. They talked as if they were going to do it at the dealership, so does toyota have a remote starter brand. And yes I do live in the cold northeast PA.

That wire slicin', dicin', and tapin' are not for me. Paid $300 for one installed by the dealer for the wife's car, not a Tacoma though.

350 doesn't sound too bad. It depends what features it has. Viper has remote starts ranging from 200-500+ dollars for just the systems.

Not sure where in NEPA you are from, I'm in the fabulous Wyoming Valley. My best recommendation for getting a remote starter installed would be Sound Solutions in Kingston. It's next door to Jack Williams Tire on the Wyoming Ave. I've gone there for several things over the years and haven't had an issue. Customer service is great and will go in depth with any answer they give.

Just got the Viper 5301 (the 2 way version) installed on my Wife's Murano.

Had to pay $280 above and beyond the price of the basic install.

Alarm was $299, and it was $580 out the door.

I would highly suggest the 2 way transmiter. We've had three remote starts now, and the 2 way is worth the extra cost...
