What did you have? I was big into isuzus before I bought the tacos. I loved every isuzu I drove. They were rock solid, just no aftermarket parts. Even on my trooper when I changed the fluids at 80k the t-case oil was clear, trans was dirty full of particles but I remember what a difference in made in shifting. It became very effortless.

ECGS has a slightly different procedure, but it's pretty close in the sense that long distance driving shouldnt be done.

If you're going to change it every 30k miles then any decent 75W90 or 80W90 GL5 gear oil will be fine.

I miss my '95 Rodeo - V6 - was pushing 300K when I sold it. Had original engine and GM 4L30 transmission. Shifted as smooth as it did the day I bought it.

I was surprised too. Even the late stuff called for 30wt motor oil. My 2000 trooper was manual and had an air in transmission I believe it was an r series and it too was recommended to use 5w30. Of course I put in red line mtl

I ran severe gear in my 06 and at 205,000 she's still on the road trouble free. I towed with it often too, when changing fluids it still looked good.

Dealer says they use 75w140 in the rear diff and 75w90 in the T case and front diff. I told them manual says 75w85 GL-5 for rear, they pretty much said w/e is clever.... so yea

Is it easy as removing the fill and drain plug. Reinstall drain plug, then fill till it starts to trickle out? I need to do this soon.

Yea sort of. First start with removing the fill plug FIRST. That way, if for some reason when you go to remove the the fill plug but you can’t bc it’s seized or w/e , you haven’t drained all your diff fluid yet and aren’t left unable to fill it.

    Remove fill plug
    Remove drain plug and drain.
    Flush if desired (recommended)
Replace the washers on the plugs
    Install drain plug
Fill with oil until no more can go in (this is indicated by oil starting to dribble out of the fill plug.
    Install fill plug
Drive the bejesus out of your pretty tacoma beast.

How are you flushing your rear axle?

In all my years, I have never heard of this. Only thing I have heard of is refilling the axle, and doing another drain and fill in 50 or 100 miles.

Perhaps “flush” is misleading. It’s not a flush like a tranny, but similar (tranny is usually a power or running flush)

Once drained, Simply keep adding clean gear oil through it (open drain) and allow it to continue to drain through as you add oil. When I start the job and I initially drain mine completely, I usually add/drain another clean quart through to ensure any shavings or grime get completely out. Then I install drain plug back in and add as normal.

Exactamundo. If I have been towing it hard or off-roading, I will not only do this, but also run 50-100 miles on new oil, and then change it again Lol. I drive hard and beat up the outside, but baby it in maintenance

I change mine every 15,000 miles. Of course, I tow and off-road.

My idea is it is easier to change things on Saturday afternoon in my garage, than at midnight, somewhere on the side of a trail, in the mud and rain...

Literally takes 1 minute to get t started draining, go grab a beer and watch the first half of football, add oil during half time (cuz the half time shows are garbage) and watch the last half knowing you accomplished something (at least had more beer) lol
