    Hey guys,

I have been a Toyota fan since I was a kid and now drive a Toyota camry. I have always wanted a Tacoma and now being that I work on boats it is time to take the plunge!

I would really like a 2005 and up for the bigger size and the power. I am looking at a doublecab trd off road with 71,000 miles on it for around $17,xxx. Should I be concerned with this mileage? I have always known Toyotas to run forever but I am a little concerned with the posts. My Camry is a 1997 and has 111,000 miles and runs great.

I have researched a ton but I guess I am wondering, what is considered to be high mileage nowadays? Any of you guys would be worried about spending that much money on a truck out of warranty?

I really appreciate any help you 2nd generation guys can give me!

    Chris

go by the rule no more than between 15k - 20k per year for any vehicle... 20k being a high mileage vehicle and 15k being average. So a 71,000 miles for a 5 year vehicle works out to 14200 per year which I say is average. then edmunds the retail value and thats the starting price, bounce that off what the trade-in was (ie how much the dealer got it for) and thats the start of negotiations.

edmunds says a used TRD 4WD dbl cab short w/ 71000 third party 16800, dealer 18800... Prerunner even less ... check it out

haha, no way those guys are at work too long and deal with bs from customers,

I worked on a GM lot when I was in HS as a lot attendant though and I did enjoy "moving" the Camaros and Corvettes...

    But its pretty common sense.

Perfect...thats what I came up with as well. It is a 2005 doublecab 4x4. I have been looking for quite a while and looking at the price variances in relation to the options/mileage and this one seems pretty good for what I want...

Is it private party or at a dealer..and if so...a toyota dealer?
I always always get anything used checked out prior to buying it and have a friend who owns a shop who I trust which is important to me.
Do you know how many owners it has too? Sorry for all the questions, I love shopping! :)

The mileage wouldn't scare me a bit if its mostly highway...that is why private party one owners are my favorite .............
good luck with your buy, whatever you get!

    Simon's Mom,

It is a private party and I have already thought of getting the truck checked out. I work on all of my stuff but that doesn't mean that I can overlook something that a factory tech might see!

It is a one owner, I ran a carfax on it and it came back clear. Always dealer maintained (carfax confirmed) no liens, no accidents says car fax.

Can you get a TSB done after the warranty expires? Such as the tailgate or the rear springs just in case that hasn't happened.

    Thanks!

It sounds like a great truck so far, one owner & private party so you can at least talk to them about what kind of driving they did, maintenance etc. Not sure about the TSB, so one of the guys might know...the only thing I have read here is about the motor mounts on some 05's, if you search you will probably find some info..or it may be a sticky. Best of luck!

I bought mine with 98k miles on it. It runs great and it still can take a beating on road or off road! I love it!
