I hit 5200 on my 3rd gen and decided to change my oil. I like doing it myself and felt I needed to learn this new truck anyway. Anyway, I have the bilsteins at .85 with the BFG2 and was getting 16 mpg on avg. after I changed oil, I am getting 19-20. Its pretty crazy, On the same roads also. Like others have said: once you go over 2k rpm is when it starts to really take a hit, but my shifting is even better now. No more gear searching. Im guessing the break in really works wonders. I will say, I was amazed at how much oil these little truck takes. It is one qt shy of my raptor 6.2L. Put Mobil 1 0w20 in and have been much happier with my truck since. I have a pic of 22.6 mpg over a 26.9 distance. Best so far.

    mine has changed as well.
I have 1300 miles on it.
I was getting about 16-17mpg going to work. I tried out Power mode for 2 days and now driving in regular mode the trans acts better as well and I am getting bettwen 18.5-19.5mpg to work now

Why do you visit the site or own the truck if you seem to hate both things.

There is no logical reason that an oil change would impact fuel economy in such a significant manner. Something else is going on with your truck or your driving habits/environment.

That's generally what happens after the first oil change on a new car, did it with all the new vehicles I've owned.

A 3 to 4 mpg increase in fuel economy after first oil change. It's revolutionary ladies and gentlemen

I've owned no less than 6 brand new vehicles. Honda accord, 2 tacomas, a 4runner, a Sierra Denali and a BMW 335d. Never once did I record such a significant change in fuel economy from the day I took delivery to the day I sold them. At MOST mpg might have increased by .5 over time. Mostly due to driving habits and perhaps some very insignificant change from "Break In". These are not 1965 motors. Modern engineering and manufacturing methods and specs have all but completely diminished the famed "break in"

Not sure where you are but cars do get better gas mileage in warmer weather. This combined with the oil change, combined with the transmission learning, combined with who knows what else could have an impact.

he just wants to be grumpy pants and complain about as much as he can. I guess he knows EVERYONES truck and how they behave. My MPG has gone up this week and after driving it in power mode for a few days now driving in regular mode its shifting better. Getting like a little in between power and the regular. so maybe it was doing some learning from driving in power mode to adjust shift points now in regular. But Its all just made up cause Smitty said so.

My 20 mile daily commute trip consumption has slowly bumped up from 18mpg when I first got the truck now this week to 22 mpg on the same route.

Route is mostly highway with speeds 50- 65 mph. Tank average right now is 19.8 and that includes both highway and city trips. Truck has just over 2100 miles on it now.

Either it's improving, I'm adapting my driving style to the truck or likely a little bit of both. I haven't used the cruise control or ECT at all and have been very happy the way the truck performs.

Pretty much seeing mileage as advertised.
