I bought a 2016 Tacoma in December. By early March, I had put less than 2500 miles on it. The engine light came on and it was running a little rough. I took it right to the shop.

They were a little mystified. Then I got the verdict, the truck had a dead cylinder. Toyota quarantined the engine. They're sending out a new short block, but the gaskets are backordered. I was ninth on the list two weeks ago. They're telling me that they expect that gaskets by the end of next week, which is what they told me last week.

I called the customer service line to see about getting them to extend the warranty given that I'll have a a new truck with a rebuilt engine which is a used truck. They won't commit until after the truck is repaired. No rationale explanation for why they couldn't make that call before the truck was repaired. Very frustrating.

Has this happened to anyone else.

I'm really regretting buying the truck. The product, of course, was defective. The customer service is unhelpful.

If you're thinking about buying a 2016, be very careful. The 2016 is a new engine, and it may some issues.

Stuff happens. Obviously anything mechanical can fail. This is only the second motor in a Tacoma I heard of take a shit. Doesn't seem to be a common issue

Now, let the :crapstorm: begin lol

Not to blame the victim, but some posts on what dealer you are working with and such will help your case.

Because right now, to me this is a standard 3 post troll thread.

It's standard operating procedure to not offer comp until the issue is resolved!

I'd love to see a conspiracy uncovered about people being paid to troll forums to change opinions before vehicle purchases lol.

What if their IP addresses came from a chev dealership or corporate office? Lol

Actually not a new engine. Been around since 1882.

I can appreciate the OP's frustration and disappointment, but this thread is ridiculous. This experience is far from typical for any Toyota.

The Atkinson design for an internal combustion engine was in 1882. The engine has been used in many vehicles. It's not like it was just designed last year. That's the fall back for haters. "Oh it's a new design untested engine" not true.

Oh, I see where you are coming from. True, the Atkinson cycle has been around that long but this isn't a true Atkinson engine, Toyota just leaves the intake valve open a little longer and calls it that. I agree though, this isn't a new engine out this year, it's been in Lexus for a while.

    Haa-haa

That engine was built on a Friday. Ask them for one built on a Wednesday. :playball:

I appreciate the humor. And if what the OP is saying is true and happened, it sucks and I can appreciate the frustration. But mechanical is mechanical. Nothing is foolproof. I don't believe this is the norm that we all should dump our trucks because of one or two experiences.
