What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Finally got around to replacing the burned out climate control lights. I got 3 replacement LEDs for $8 so no complaints from me!

 

Weird gas gauge (sensor?) issue last night.

Truck was parked at the airport for one day. I knew it had just over 3/4s of a tank in it when I parked. I got in, started it up, let it warm up a bit and the gas gauge needle went to where I thought it should.

Drove out of the airport lot and within 2 mins of driving I see the needle start rapidly dropping to just above the 1/2 tank mark. I pull over immediately check for leaks or anything. Nothing.

Get back in the truck, start driving again and the needle slowly ascends back up to the mark just above 3/4s of a tank... where it should have been.

Then it was fine for the 40 mins drive home.

 

Level ground?

 

Where's you get em? I couldn't find replacements anywhere but toyota and they were probably 8 bucks a piece lol

 

So far they've been great, the light output is as expected from an HID and their mounting system is solid. They actually do come with a harness but I already had wiring set up for them so I didn't use it.

 

Good to k ow did they come with an inline fuse too?

No way go look at my build there is pics! Well maybe strip the frame and build a fully caged buggy!

 

Damn that sucks I could see the engine, front bumper, and other items to be re-sellable not unless you put that in your build you have now.

 

For the most part yes.

I know what you're referring to though, my driveway is on a pitch, there's lots of hills here, etc. The gauge would ever so slowly creep in those situations. This was more like a rapid drop as if my gas tank had a hole in it all of a sudden, then a quick ascension as if I was filling the tank with the key turned to the accessory setting.

Oh I have sold so much off that truck already! Engine tranny and just a bunch of small stuff and bumper survived the wreck so it's on my new truck! And the suspension! I already made my money back for what I bought it from the insurance lol!

 

Mines been doing that for years. Full to 3/4 full is normal, then after that the needle migrates to empty, then randomly starts to work at about the halfway level in the tank and is fine from there until empty.

Interestingly enough it's worse in the winter and behaves normally towards the end of the summer. I think the MTBE is screwing with the sending unit as it ages.

 

That sounds like an electrical issue to me. Like not a good ground either at the sending unit or the gauge itself.

I'll just keep an eye on it and if it continues or gets worse I'll investigate. Maybe this will prompt me to finally take the gauge cluster out and replace the bulbs with red ones.

 

Ugggghhhhh I ordered oak and got brown!!!! Even the package number is correct for oak just contents are incorrect... The part that sucks is I don't want to climb through passenger side no more as inside handle is broken only good part is I ordered both handles and they will match but wrong colors I guess I should have got them at Toyota instead of rockauto

 

Can't you just roll the window down?
