Is This A Safe Place To Place Jack Stands?

I'm apprehensive about it because the U of the top of the stand isn't cradling anything.

I could move them toward the center of the vehicle to get the U/cradle affect, but i'm concerned that's too close to the center (i.e. nose heavy?).

Yes, i've done a search. Yes, i found pages of rhetoric without an answer :-D

You should be fine. Just make sure the stand is fully contacting the frame. I've never been a fan of fully extending the jack stand though. I can't tell what the stands are rated for, but I would rather over do it and not have to worry. My $.02

 

i would lower them some and move them forward more so they have more metal on them because the truck will move when you are doing the job. so this way is the truck slides alittle on jack stands they will still be on metal. but thats just me and what i would do.

what do you mean "fully contacting the frame"?

the problem with moving them forward is the frame piece curves upward.

 

I put mine there too but I turn them 90 degrees so the frame can't slide off. I'd also leave the jack there for extra security.

 

Be sure to chock a wheel

I have a lot of scrap wood lieing around, so I will usually just put a chunk of 2x8 between the frame and the jackstand. As long as you line up the frame and the jackstand, and you're working on a level concrete surface, it won't move.

 

I turn them 90 degrees and as long as the parking brake is on the truck won't move (assuming your parking brake works). Also, I leave the jack raised and contacting the lift point in case the jack stands fail.

It sketched me out the first time I did it but I've done it a few times and never had an issue.

Your probably ok, but I would NOT jack my truck up by the transmission cross member
