Ive done a lot of research on this but can't seem to find someone who has a definite answer or someone who has done it before. I have a 2015 trd sport with bilstein 5100 at 1.75". Nothing done to rear. Will 275/70r17 fit with no rubbing? If so how much on the uca and will it cause any damage? And if I get the spidertrax 1.25" spacers will I be able to fit the tires then? image.jpg

If it helps, I had 265/75/70 and it rubbed the mudflaps with 5190's at 1.75 and factory 4 leaf pack in the rear

At 1.75 you can fit a 275/70/17, won't rub on uca but will rub at base of fender, takes minor trimming. In my opinion 265/70/17 would be your best fit, especially if your not lifting the rear. Good luck!

    Plain and simple...

LIFT DOES NOT MAKE IT TO WHERE YOU CAN FIT BIGGER TIRES!!!! It simply makes them not rub at ride height. You go over a speed bump or up a curb they will rub and you will have to trim something.

I dont get why people dont understand this. The largest tire you can fit on our trucks without trimming is a 265/75R16 or 265/70R17 (same size). REGARDLESS of lift size. Some have reported that a 255/85R16 works with minimal trimming due to it being skinny.

But either way Its a simple matter of the physical dimensions of the opening of the front wheel well. You want a larger tire than a 265/75R16, plan on removing mud flaps, trimming the inner fender, bending the pinch weld over, and a cab mount chop.

People that say they fit 285/75R16's without trimming dont do much more than drive on flat roads.... I have seen 285/75R16's rip off fender flares when stuffed, and rub cab mounts that have ALREADY been chopped.

255/75/17 duratracs. But yes if you wheel at all or hit a pot hole while turning you will more than likely rub.

Also maybe I'm old but I remeber when a 10" tire was considered wide.

So you're telling me that if I lift my truck 8 feet I'm still only gonna be able to fit 265/70 r17....seems a little ridiculous buddy. The whole point of a lift is to get bigger tires

obviously you will be able to fit larger tires with an 8 foot lift. The wheel wells will be high above you and the tires will completely miss it. Maybe even at turning.

But as long as you stay within 0 to 3 inches of lift, the max size you can fit without trimming is STOCK SIZE.

    regardless.

anything larger will rub at full articulation.

    I had 275 70 17 on with a 3 inch lift with a UCA and mudflaps removed.

    And guess what?

    I still rubbed ;)

I ran 285/75-16 on my taco with a large enough BMC ,a bit of plastic trimming and bashing the crap out of the pinch weld! Same thing on my FJ with an addition of 1.25" wheel spacers for 305/75-16

I think what you need to hear is that it's mostly about back spacing. I haven't gotten in totally dialed in yet to be able to simplify how it works but just search and you'll be able to come to your own assumption. I searched long and hard to find my dims. Just to give you an example. I'm running 17x8.5 & 0bs w/ 295/70/17 and 2.75 up front. I'm good so far but will most likely rub at full stuff but you need to except the fact that you're going to have to trim if your going to wheel. Anyway I think if your doing fire roads and its your daily driver you're good. You should explore back spacing and with that amount of lift you're talking about you'll have no issues clearing with the right wheel tire combo

Thanks for the help. my problem is I'm gonna keep my stock rims. But I think my best best bet is 265/70r17...I may get the tire store to slap a pair of 275 on when I get them just to see how bad they rub... I may still put an aal 1.5 on the back. Not sure any of y'all have any pros or cons? I want a inch or 1.5 max. I pull my boat a good bit too.

If you drive a ton, then you may be happy with the 265 or 275 performance. Though let me tell you, a lot of people go 265 and regret not going 285. I went (265/70/17), then moved up to (285/70/17) and lost money and time in the process. Just think about what you really want, then make it happen (not saying you haven't already). I promise you won't miss a little cab mount metal once it's gone :sawzall:

    no shit.....

Im saying your typically non drop bracket lift on our 2nd gen trucks... largest tire you can fit without rub regardless of lift amount is 265/75R16

I went 265 70 17 with a 2-1/4" lift after my 885's settled. No rub obviously, and they fill the wheel well fine. More must be better though since 285's are so popular.:boink:

You didn't ask me, but here are a few pics of my truck with 265/70/17, then 285/70/17. Both on sport wheels, but the 285's are with 1.25-inch spacers. You'll see I have front mudflaps with 285's in my driveway. I had to remove those and trim the fender to make them fit. You can't see the trimming unless you are looking for it. The cab mount doesn't rub on the road, but off road, it might. Just something to consider.

I liked my old 265/70/17s. They filled up the wheel well just fine, but it left me wanting more. A local guy (not on tw) has KO2's in 275/70/17 on a double cab and it looks pretty sweet, noticeably bigger than the 265/70/17 bfg rugged terrains I had. If you search, there are a few people running 275/70/17's on TW without issues - if you don't want to cut that's a good choice.

This is my preferred size for a 17" wheel and near stock height. I have BFG KM1s in this size and nary a rub on or offroad with mudflaps removed.
