It's not surprising. I have owned three Tundras over the years, and they just keep getting more bloated and thirsty - and the design is a little amorphous now. Time for a major re-design and better engine choices.

The closeness in pricing between Tacoma and Tundra is also problematic in their current configurations.

Up here in Canada all toyota's cost more than their North American counter parts. But the Tundra is a lot more than a Ford, chev or dodge with the same type of options. Heck a new Tacoma is more than most of the half tons up here. They do hold their value a lot better though.

It's an old truck in a saturated market. If I wanted a solid half ton I'd still look for a '12-'13 Access SR5 5.7L 4x4.

If I was buying a brand new truck my first choice would be a 5.0L supercab F150 4x4 in black.

I had a Tundra and while I think it's a great truck, it was just too large. I don't tow or haul, so while the power is incredible, every time I steered into a parking lot I found myself having to scan the lot and plan my turns before I started to park (Costco with its huge parking spaces being the exception). With the Tacoma, I just whiz in, park wherever and do what needs to be done. I do alot of offroading and the Tacoma is considerably better in that aspect. The 3rd gen, with its improved creature comforts means I don't have to do alot of modding after the fact to get what I want.

This is what I did. Was in the market for a full size because my Tacoma wasn't cutting it. Looked at Tundra and couldn't see how it made sense. Bought a 5.0L F150 STX 4wd Supercab. Loving it.

If Tundra sales keep lagging, you'll see promotions on them later in the year to move them. I bought one several years back when gas was skyrocketing, and Tundras were just sitting. They marked it down by 7k. I've never seen that deep a discount since, but they'll probably do some kind of Tundra promotion later in the summer or fall if trends persist.

Yup, my '09 CrewMax was under 35K. It was a Rock Warrior though. So it was in between the base and SR5. Still, it was the 5.7L, 4x4, crew cab, backup camera, dual zone climate, power sliding rear window, etc for the same price as my Tacoma.

I almost was ready to get a '16 but there wasn't much of a difference from my '09 plus I wanted something a bit smaller for the time being. If I did it again and size wasn't a factor, I'd either wait for a redesigned Tundra or grab the 5.0 F150.

I know that feeling, I'd love the extra power, room and storage. But damn I love parking my tacoma in my garage at night.

Yup - I loved the power and comfort of the Tundra, but sometimes felt like I was piloting a blimp.

I'm trading my '14 Tundra in for my Tacoma for the same reason a lot of you have stated. It's a great truck and love the power but it's just too big for me as a daily driver. Great for trips though.

My wife said the best vehicle we have ever owned for comfort and safety on long road trips was The Beast (5.7 Tundra). She's right.

It's an awesome trip vehicle. I will miss that aspect especially with two kids but I just can't justify keeping it for one or two long trips a year. I have the 5.7 too.
