We have a nice Napier bed tent and a nice Airbedz mattress but my wife informed me she won't camp anywhere without showers after we bought both of the items.

Setup is quicker, no rocks to sleep on, no water comin in from underneath in the rain, option to run power from truck for leds/fan/charger, way more comfortable sleep, thicker material so cooler/warmer than a regular tent, off the ground away from critters, no need for a nice flat spot, the list goes on

If you're worried about fuel economy on the way to camp, cost of the tent, or consider climbing 6 rungs of ladder a pain in the ass, then stick to a ground tent

I still want to get a teardrop for us. We have a hard sided pop up but had considered a tear drop. We decided not to get it due to the fact we take our dog with us. We've got another dog now as well so the tear drop just wouldn't have worked most likely. Maybe one day when I get old and retired, doubt that'll ever happen, we'll get to try one out.

Tepui has a model called the Gran Sabana that sleeps 4 adults, I imagine that would do it. My only concern would be getting the kids in and out of the tent though, it can be tricky at night even for adults.

She towed pretty well, I was coming from the east side. I turned the ECT on the whole trip and towed about 60 there and back. I had a 2013 V6 DCLB last year and this was the first time I towed with the '16 in the mountains. I was pretty happy with it and about the same mpg as before (10ish).

It's usually right around 3000lbs, it's not too heavy.

R-pods are nice. I used to tow one with the wife's 4 Runner. The 4 Runner seemed to struggle a little with it though. I have been wondering how they would tow behind the taco.

I've seen a few being towed with Tacomas here and there. Some through the mountains and some through the flat areas. I've never had a chance to ask anybody how well they tow, but I believe they can be around 4k pounds which would be a fair amount of weight back there. I'd get a WDH hitch for sure. Our A frame says it weighs around 2100 dry and while the Taco pulls it with no problems, I can feel it back there.

Afton Canyon campground at the West end of the Mojave Road. Was pretty nice while the sun was still up, but the worst night of camping I've ever had (that includes some pretty serious rain outs in the Cascades), wind gusting extraordinarily hard and a shit ton of airborne sand. One of our two neighbors bailed in the middle of the night, the other was pretty well protected in a Westy.

Basically, it's a super comfortable, well lit, queen sized bed on wheels with an instant kitchen.
