Front Seats

Just bought, 2 weeks ago 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport 4 door and find the front drivers seat very short and for more than a 20 min ride, very uncomfortable and short. on my test drive which was 10 min I did not notice this. I am 5 ft 11 in, 200 lbs and am surprised Toyota does not know or has addressed this. Heck, now I have a uncomfortable 34,000 truck and if I trade it, I get my $ butt kicked. Other than the uncomfortable drivers seat, I love this truck.

 

I hate to say it, but an expensive learning curve for you.

I had the same issue as you with my 2013 (with a similar build 5'11/185), just sold the truck mainly because of this issue.

Toyota went from

2005-2015 not changing the seat positing, so I am sure you won't change their minds.

I took my new Titan on a 2 hour test drive.

 

Looks like you got the short end of the stick on that one.

It has been a talking point in every Tacoma review I have read/watched since 2005.

They definately know about it, the 2016 even has the seat raised slightly over the 2nd gen.

Toyota does not put in height adjustment because that would involve raising the roof. On the 2016 redesign they kept all dimensions the same as the 2015.

Still no height adjustment, and needs custom rails which can cost up to $500.

I had Sparco seats in a Civic I used to race. The company that build my rails said they would never builD another set. Took them a shitload of hours to build and install, and very tough welding/rewelding to get it to work.

You will destroy the factory rail doing this, so you will need to buy a new rail if you ever decide to go back to stock.

 

Not sure if the 2016 seat bracket pattern is same as 05-15 but corbeau has mounting brackets made for the Tacoma with rails for like $100 each.

Nevertheless airbag systems will need to be manipulated with resistors to run racing seats.

 

I'm 6'2" tall, and initially found the seating position awkward, but then realized I was most likely just used to the seats in my old vehicle and told myself it would take some time to get used to. With the Tacoma I found that I had to put the seat back further and let my legs stretch out sort of straighter. So far so good and I've had zero issues and find the seats rather comfortable.

 

I've had custom rails made for seats before... cost me ~$100 for each seat. All it takes is someone with welding goods not very difficult really. As mentioned rails exist for the 05-15 already.

 

Do a quick search, someone on here lifted the seat about an 1"

5'11" 235lbs... I commute 1-1.5 hours each way everyday, I'm not seeing a problem.

 

I'm 5'8" and don't find them short at all. But I always lower any seat I'm sitting in as far as it will go. I don't want to feel like I'm sitting on a bar stool.

 

Exactly same here! I actually find the seats to be extremely comfortable. Now when I had my Scion tC it felt like I was sitting on the floor.

 

I can only compare these seats to what Toyota had in my old 1989. Same hard ass seat, its is still short but that works for me as I am short too. At least these seats have lumbar support and seat side bolsters. I guess that's an improvement after 27 years. I don't get the whole electric seat thing. You buy a truck, you set the seat where you want it and you never move it again. At least the passengers seat changes with different people in and out and shifting it to make space. But my drivers seat not so much. This is my first new seat so its all good to me.

 

You just need to let yourself adjust to a new position. I a big guy and I can drive anything comfortably, I just need to get used to it. For example, in a land rover defender, you are basically sitting upright with your feet flat on the ground with a bus wheel in front of you while in a lotus you are basically sitting on the ground with your legs all the way out in front of you and a vertical steering wheel. Both are fine for me, but I hated them both when I first started driving them. Heck, I am 6'2" and can even drive an MG midget.

The Tacoma is in the middle. I have found that the most comfortable for me is to have the seat back more upright than I would in a car and to pull the seat in closer to the pedals while having the steering wheel telescoped as far out as it will go.

If it really is too low for you, then make some rails to raise the seat, but I really think it is just an issue of getting used to it.

 

I'm about 6'1 and don't have any issues with the seating position. Never have. It's actually quite comfortable for me the way it is. I've driven a lot of cars and have been able to get comfortable with every single one of them with the exception of a BMW Z3.

As another user said, there is a write up on seat spacers floating around on here. That would probably be your best bet

 

Have driven my Tacoma on three 7 hour trips recently. Back and legs hurt like hell. Never experienced this in other vehicles. Before my last 7 hour trip, I placed a 1 inch thick pillow in the area of the seat where the seat back and seat bottom meet. Huge improvement in comfort. I'll definitely be doing this mod.

 

I'm 5"11, I think they're very comfortable. Much more comfortable that the 2014 GMC I traded. A buddy just blew the engine in his Buick Centry tank. It has power leather seats like a recliner, nice & soft too. Bet you could get a pair of them in a Tacoma.
