    Howdy all!!

I just purchased my first Tacoma and first Toyota all in one buy, how bout that, before I purchased it I did a ton of reading on TW and found answers to many of my questions about Tacoma's and all of the things to watch for/not buy/ long bed vs short bed/ Off Road vs Sport... etc. I have already learned this is an amazing and tight knit community.

I had a 2010 F150 FX4 I sold at the end of 2015 and had since been in the market for a good used Tacoma. Last week I found a good enough deal within my price range.

I purchased a Red 2011 4x4 TRD Sport/Off Road hybrid with 83,000 miles, 3" lift, and a few cosmetic and internal upgrades (cold air intake and throttle body spacer). The gentleman who was the sole owner took perfect care of it and ensured all of the required maintenance was done on time and I had the dealership put all new fluids into it. Now, to answer the "what is he talking about 'hybrid'?" question. It is color match bumpers, hood scoop, and stickers, HOWEVER it has a rear locker. I did not know it was possible to have the best of both worlds, but, I found out otherwise. Below I have posted pictures of the new buy!! I am excited to get it offroad soon and see what all it can do!

In the future I am looking to:
    Add front and rear armor,
    Add a winch,
    LED Bar,
Black out all of the emblems,
    Wheels and tires,
and possibly darker head and tail lights.

I am looking for any and all suggestions, advice, or brands to look into! I am in the North Austin Tx area, so if there is anyone around that knows trails or local builders please let me know! I look forward to talking with everyone and starting my new build!! IMG_0572.jpg IMG_0573.jpg IMG_0584.jpg

    Nice truck!

When you say rear locker, do you mean an aftermarket one like ARB? Because the Sports definitely did not come with rear lockers, only limited slip differentials...unless he swapped out the rear end for a TRD Offroad one...

Yes... this is what I'm curious about. Take a pic of your locker switch. I don't think the 2011 even had a mechanical LSD. Didn't they switch to auto(brake controlled)LSD by then?

Yeah I think you're right. Maybe he's confusing that with having some kind of full time-locker?

OP, the lockers Toyota installs are electric and are controlled by a button on your dash to the left of your steering wheel. It says RR DIFF LOCK on the button.

if you do indeed have one, then you have a special truck indeed my friend. Previous owner must have swapped out the rear ends, or he had a TRD Off road originally and bought the hood with the scoop and put TRD Sport stickers on?

Either way it's still an awesome truck lol, I'm just curious is all

Good catch. Parking in front of hydrants is against the TW CoC.

Haha hey on the fire hydrant only for pictures, so a couple of minutes max. I made sure to have it back in the garage shortly after. I am definitely confused as to the locking rear differential so if anyone can shine light on this subject I would appreciate it. There is no button on the left that says it, however, on the four wheel drive knob there is a "push" indicator. Below is a picture! Again, any input on this would be great. The other thing is, when I look up the Vin number it pulls it up as an Off-road. I am equally if not more confused. Let me know what y'all think.

Thanks for all of the welcomes and enthusiasm, if anyone's in the Texas area and wants to get off road let me know!

The push indicator just let's you know you have to push the dial in to switch over to 4lo. No locking differential, sorry! You have Toyota's new version of a limited slip differential though (i forget what it's called), which isn't as good as a locking diff but definitely better than an open one.

Still a very capable and awesome truck, stick around TW and you'll learn a lot :)

Yeah if you had one it would be an RR DIFF lock button in between those other three

And don't feel bad, when I had my first prerunner 10 years ago I thought the ECT Power button was some kind of supercharger lol :violent:
