So I have a 2002 Ex cab TRD OR. 195k on the V6 and it still runs like a dream. I am having a bit of a dilemma. Right now I have BFG AT KOs on it. They have been good to me. I have gotten through snow, mud, rocks and lots of highway driving with them. I am however needing new ones here soon (they are at the wear bars) before spring gets into full swing here in idaho. As I have looked around the top two contenders are the BFG KO2 and the General grabber AT2. I like the BFGs I have heard lots of good about them but they are pricey. I have also heard good about the Generals and they are cheaper, which makes me a little wary of them. Anyone here have any input on these tires on these trucks?

Old ko's and at2 were similar, but I think the new ko2 have a lot of new tech in them.

Old KOs and new KO2s are nothing alike. I hated the KOs and will never buy them again, totally different tire with the KO2s which are my new favorite AT.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I had KO's before and personally, I think they are overrated, overpriced junk and there are a lot better options out there for AT's that are more modern and much more financially sensible. Yokohama, Kelly, and Cooper have some pretty awesome AT tires to consider. The KO hasn't changed much in nearly 30 years, yet they still charge more than a premium price! I think that's a little bit ridiculous, heck, the new BFG KO2's a cheaper than the original! Honestly, if you have to go with BFG, go with the KO2, it's a better tire all the way around.
I was never overly impressed with my KO's abilities in the snow and on road manners were terrible. They never liked to stay balanced and I was always getting that re-done on a 3 month basis.
I can't say much on General's, but see them a lot so they must be decent. Look up some reviews on them and go from there. But if it was me, I'd go with anything other than the KO pretty much, lol!

Thats what I hear a lot about the KOs. They are the only tire I have ever had on my truck. I bought it with them on there so I don't have experience to go off with other tires. They have been good to me though which is a big motivator for me to go with the KO2. I did think it was funny that KOs still cost more than a K02. They must have found a way to make the K02 cheaper or something.

the best way to choose the tire is pick one that works for your 70% need (street or offroad) and base it off that. I had Firestone Destination A/Ts and after 50k they still have tread. mostly street driving but the occasional back roads. I also got 5 for ~$650 otd

I use my truck hard always loaded with 800 pounds or more of payload.

I have used the same tire dealer now for 30 plus years I always used his House brand tires

I buy the tread pattern I like

Like Batteries not that many companies making the product.

It is an on going joke I always ask if the name brand tires are paying for advertising there tires

I've heard (key word heard) general grabbers are more of a sand/dune tire that doesn't hold well with ice

You could also check out Toyo tires, I think it's like a 60,000 mile warranty or something on their A/T's

I have the Yoko's on my truck and there great. I've taken them through snow, heavy rain, offroad, and just back and forth from work and they never skip a beat. They were suggested to me from a buddy who has only bought Yoko's since 1999. States they last forever, mine are only a yr old. His last set lasted him nearly 80k miles. That was good enough for me to pull the trigger. Also keep an eye out on Discount Tire.com. They will eventually have a deal where they offer free shipping, $100 off, and then tack on dealer rebate. Last time the Yoko's were on there.

My dad has the AT2 on his first gen Tacoma, and recently put a set on his second gen Tundra. They are good tires. They have good road manners in my opinion. The road noise from them is almost not-existent under the Tacoma, but they have some take-off noise under the Tundra with the windows down. They are also have a relatively hard rubber compound, so they last for quite a while. I don't know how many miles he has on them with the Tacoma, but they've been on there for years and have still better than half tread. Also, there is more tread depth as compared to a KO.

I'll state that I've never owned the new ko2's, always had the km2's. However I've spotted and driven rigs with them and they are an awesome tire. They just flat out work and everything, with the exception of sloppy bottomless mud. If they find bottom they tend to do ok. No clue how they do on the road as I haven't driven with them but I'm sure they are a hell off a lot quieter than my km2's.

The only way they got away with that is people are still willing to pay premium for KO's. It's the only reason those tires have been around so many years. In their day, they were THE all-terrain tire to have, before they came along all other offerings at the time were mediocre at best. But. that was several years ago, tires have evolved immensely since then and now the KO is the mediocre offering stacked up against much more modern and advanced tires. They look cool and stylish but for me, that's where the line's drawn.
KO2's are better, I'd really look hard into those if I was you. They look even cooler, have a better tread pattern, and much more durable sidewall.

Well I decided to go with the K02. I found a place that got me a decent deal on them. Plus my brother in law has been running them on his Land Cruiser forever now. Will post pics once I get them put on.
