Well, when it takes 2+ weeks to check into getting a box to mail stuff in, that'll add up. He's had the 8520s for what, a month? I was promised a 5300 back in September, but he wanted to wait until after the 8520s were mailed, so he could 'focus' on those.

Between that and his rising cost of shipping, I gave in and bought one from TruckAlterations a few weeks back. Mine's been sitting on my kitchen table for a week now (been too cold to install). Wish I'd figured out how this was going to go down earlier, the $7 savings ($46 from TruckAlt, $39 from DGerm) wasn't worth all the delays. Could have had this installed back in August or September... :(

Thanksgiving break should be over by now. What's going on with the 8520s? Any status on this or will we have to wait until after Christmas break?

I'm a pretty patient guy, but I'm getting peaved. :annoyed:

Dan, couldnt you always just go buy some boxes so these guys can get their product that you have been holding? Boxes are cheap, whats a dollar or two considering you had an interest free loan with everyone's money for such a long time..

I realize pop n' lock runs their company about as f'ed up as you could possibly run a company, but for Christ sake, these guys have been waiting for their locks for how long now?

Lubricate the pop and lock as well as all tailgate latching areas well.

I installed my PL 5300 as soon as it was received from the group buy (not really that long ago). Yesterday when I first opened my tailgate, the operation was difficult. The second time I tried to open it, it would not open. After figuring out how to get the tailgate open when operating the handle does nothing (actually easier than I expected), I discovered that because the latch mechanism wasn't operating smoothly, the rotating plate on the pop and lock that rotates to move the latch rods was flexing upward rather than engaging the rods. So I could pull the handle and the rods would not move. The plate that flexed upward seemed to be secured down as tightly as feasible - but it still flexed enough to use up all of the movement of the handle without operating the unlatching rods.

I lubricated both the pop and lock and the tailgate moving parts with lithium spray grease and it began operating properly again.

I would not have put the pop and lock back into service except for the fact that I now know how to get my tonneau cover open if the tailgate is locked (too easy to do, I'm afraid) and I found that by removing the screws in the tailgate inner plate, I could flex it enough to get my hand inside and operate the latch.

I advised Pop and Lock about this situation - If I get a response worthy of posting, I'll post it.

    Bill

Did you find anything out?? I've been pretty patient thus far but, like Banchi, I'm starting to get a little impatient. This has gone on long enough. Just get the locks out so we can "officially" close the GB. :annoyed:

It sounds like your problem was with the tailgate latches binding, not with the lock itself. I have had the PL5300 on my '09 for about 6 months without a single issue. The only other problem I have ever read was someone broke one of the rod retaining clips on the installation and a rod fell off.

Regarding lubrication of the lock itself, P & L does not recommend lubrication anything. They think dirt swirling around the tailgate would attach itself to any greased components and cause wear. When I took my OEM lock off I noticed Toyota put white grease on the moving parts. If it is ok with Toyota, it's ok with me so I put some white lithium grease on the parts that rub on the PL.

LOL, good luck with that. He's had them at his place since 11/14. What excuse would you believe for why they haven't mailed yet? Can't blame PnL this time...

Once again... ANY updates on the 8520s. I think two and a half weeks is long enough to find boxes to ship the locks out with...

and people were shocked when they though DGerm was ripping them off and called his house. Sitting on the already-paid-for locks for almost two months without mailing them?!?
