What you need to know about lifting a 2016 Tacoma - Presented by Toytec Lifts

So I've been reading a lot about the 5100s on the 3rd gens with the spring rates and all. I picked up a set of 5100s for my 08 sport and got some coils off a 16 TRD sport I was planning on setting them at the 1.75 setting. Does anyone know if the 16 springs are going to add another inch of lift to that since the 3rd gens sit higher?

 

You will pretty much max out the lift at 4"s and have zero down travel. But that is just my opinion from what I have seen in this thread.

Retract my statement. Sorry was thinking OME 887's on the 1.75 setting.

Now I will say the 2016 spring is spring rated at roughly 717lb . So compressing it to get to the 1.75 it's gonna ride rough. Do you have a heavy bumper and winch up front? If not u would suggest a lighter spring rate spring. Toytec has some nice 600lb springs that would complement the 5100's nicely.

 

Installed the ToyTec BOSS 2.0 this weekend. 265/70/R17 on TRD Pro wheels. Going to let everything settle a bit then raise the front a little more. Rides great so far!

 

Well that would be nicer I guess but I picked up the front coils for 50 bucks off another member. So I I'm thinking I'll just install the 5100s at .85 instead seeing how it looks as if these springs will be adding an inch too. I got the toytec AAL to go on at the same time. Hope it rides nice. I always thought the stock suspension rode great

Same kit I am getting, how much lift did you get in the front and in the back? Those 265's look good on that lift I was worried that they would look too small. Would love to stick with a C rated tire.

 

Yea I'm getting kinda antssie. I'm having the dealer install when they swap my frame. They have had my truck for over 2 months now

 

I'm an idiot and didn't measure before the install. I just installed the front however they came set from ToyTec which I think is 2.5", so I think that's like 1.5 lift in the front on the 16. The front needs to be lifted more to level it, which I'm going to do, but want to let it settle for a couple weeks or so before final adjustment

 

Good plan. Let it settle a bit and crank them up some more. Just don't go too far.

 

I just installed the Boss 2.0 with AAL like you with 3.6/3.9 caster and I still get rubbing on my OEM mud flaps. Im on 265/70/17 KO2s. I am so confused as to why some people like me still have rubbing issues. I don't have any extra added weight, no heavy bumper, nothing in the rear. Is it just the mudflap that's the issue for me? Seems like others with the same lift, bigger tires than i have, OEM flaps, and less caster than I have don't have any rubbing. I just don't get it.

 

Let me guess, you have TC or camburg UCAs? Problem with those they are not designed for 3rd gen, so they give you more caster than you need. More camber is the reason you rub. You solution would be more lift or get rid of those ucas and get spc LR ucas or try stock ucas. If you can get alignment 1.8 degree of caster while keeping camber at 0 then stay with stock.

I took it too Discount Tire Centers for the alignment. Seems like they didn't even try to change the caster to get it into spec. The numbers were the same before and after the alignment. So you think the caster is maxed out on the negative end and that was as low as it would go?

'16 Tacomas with 285/70/17 tires...What kind of gas mileage are you getting?

Seems everybody is getting 16-18 minimum..and I've been getting 13.5mpg since I bought the truck 3,000 miles ago, even before the lift and tires. Guess I'm going to have to take it to the dealership and figure out what's going on.

 

I consistently average about 17.5 mpg for my day to day driving which is a combination of surface streets and highway. about 30 mile round trip, afternoons are pretty much stop and go on the freeway

 

Yeah something is definitely wrong with my truck then if I'm only getting 13.5.. :/
