Just an FYI... Got an email from Fold-a-cover and they said they should be taking orders for the G4 Elite next week or so. I really like the features of the fold-a-cover. Anyone had any good/bad experiences with them?

I don't mean to piss on your parade, but they have been saying this since January. I ended up getting the Extang Solid Fold 2.0.

I was originally waiting on the fold-a-cover. I have heard amazing things about it. What made me change my mind was the ease of taking the cover completely off. Twice now without notice I have stopped on my way home to pick up large items. Not that the G4 is hard to take off it still requires tools and removing 4 bolts. Which would have been a huge inconvenience in these instances.

    Hey All,

I was playing with the tri-fold Tonneau cover that came stock with my 2016 Tacoma and I found that I was unable to get the center fold to open. I pulled on the lever but nothing happened, no click of the release. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if its just me (am I missing something?). Is there a quick fix? Or am I going to be visiting the service center already?

    Thanks!

Not sure on that one but on the g4 elite the second section did not release until the back section folded all the way back and pulled on a wire that released two pins. There was a bicycle brake like tension adjuster that had to be tightened to get it to release.

Now that I've had my LoPro QT for a little longer, I'd like to write a review/comparison.

I wanted a roll up cover for ease of use when loading my motorcycle, mountain bike, and whatever else I needed to move or transport. I narrowed my options down to the Access Lorado or the TruXedo LoPro QT because I wanted a roll up tonneau cover that was a little sleeker than the other models offered by both brands, and at the same time not on the bottom end of their spectrum.

-Starting with the Access Lorado I had on my '12 Frontier (long bed) for 3 years and it held up great. When I bought this cover, it was the only one I considered.

    Pros:
Install is easy and can be installed with basic hand tools. The tension adjusters are simple to use and require no tools to use. Has locking mechanisms on both ends of the cover and can be released at the same time by pulling on a strap with one hand. Velcro on the rails held the cover tight and easy to adjust to make the cover taut. Has adjustable straps to hold the cover when rolled up. Holds up great against rain and only get minor puddling.

Cons: Cover can't an't be removed without the use of tools. The Access logo printed on the cover will fade (to be expected). Got some wear marks on the vinyl from the ends of the support bars - the wear marks came from chaffing while the cover was rolled up. I liked the adjustable straps that hold the cover when rolled up, but if you pull them too tight, you'll end up getting wear marks on the vinyl like I did. The strap to unlatch the locks had a loop, but the part securing the the loop broke so it required using both hands to unlatch (simple fix but it didn't bother me enough to do anything about it).

-The TruXedo LoPro QT has been on my '16 Tacoma (long bed) for a few months and so far so good.

    Pros:
Install is easy and can be installed with basic hand tools. Cover can be removed by pushing two slide locks (one on each side) by hand. Has a good amount of rubber seals incorporated into the cover/rails. Simple elastic straps with hooks to secure cover when rolled up. Vinyl seems more durable than the Lorado, but I haven't had it long enough to make a fair comparison.

Cons: Sliding hook velcro on the rails - the velcro has to be started on the cover at the right spot in order for it to work properly. The hook side of the velcro on the rails is abrasive. Only locks by the tailgate on the LH rail. Puddling has been minimal, but one day I had a pool of rain on the cover (literally the whole cover) - maybe cover wasn't taut enough? Can look inside the bed by lifting the cover on either side undoing the velcro. The elastic straps can lose their elasticity over time (just my assumption). Depending on how you want the rubber seal in the back to sit, the tailgate has to be closed first - so if you're just opening the tailgate, you have to unlock the cover, close the tailgate, then re-shut the cover.

-The verdict: The Access Lorado seems to do everything better by remaining taut and good against rain puddles, more secure on the rails because it locks on both sides, and you can't easily look inside the bed by undoing the velcro and lifting on the cover. I'm not 100% certain, but I think the Lorado had more support bars than the LoPro. While the LoPro has more seals throughout, both covers still suffer from some water intrusion.

When I initially installed the LoPro, I was adjusting the velcro and immediately noticed how easy it was to look inside of the bed; I never noticed that with my Lorado. Also the LoPro seems to flap more while driving when compared to the Lorado.

Both covers have their pros and cons, but if I were to do it again I'd go with the TruXedo LoPro QT. I like that the cover can be easily removed from the truck without using tools; the distance from the header rail to the plate for the cover is shorter and the LoPro is more compact when rolled up; strapping down the rolled up cover is so much easier with the elastic straps. If these points don't apply or are a non issue, I would easily recommend the Lorado.

Got my Access Lorado installed today. I had basically the same thing in the past, but was just the standard one back in '09. This one is lower profile and has a cable to pull in the center to unlock it instead of having a slider on the right and a spring on the left. It also has some rubber/foam gaskets to help seal it from water. I don't expect it to be water tight by any means, but it looks like it will do a decent job.

Sits very tight and doesn't bow in much, find out how it does when it rains next.

It mounts with the deck rail system but it still lets you use the tie downs a little bit so it doesn't take up the whole thing which is nice.

It also uses two support rails plus the front and back instead of three on the 5.5ft bed I had, but it's fine for the short bed IMO and should help it on size when rolled up. And that was the main reason I got it, so I can put large items like patio furniture in the bed and not have to remove a tri fold cover. Just roll it back and you're good.

No need to rewrite what is in the above post, good info right there. Just adding a few pictures :)

As far as durability goes hopefully this is at least as good as my last one that was installed in 2009 shortly after purchase of the truck. It went though hailstorms that shattered windows and dented up my roof/hood, lots of ice and snow over the years, intense sun in the summer, and it still looked great when I sold it.

Yikes indeed. It was only in the 70's, and they're forecasting 90's later this week.

I park in a garage at home and at work, and the bubbling has not gone away from yesterday.

I'm waiting to hear back from the place I bought it from on how the return is going to work. I think they were working it as a warranty claim based on my email, but I called and said I wanted to return/exchange. Apparently, I have to wait for a different person to respond on a return. Bit strange, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

BTW, in previous posts I said I had the G2 on my F150, but I looked back through my orders and it was the F1. I'm going to try to go back to that one if the pricing makes sense.

Keep us posted on your exchange process. I have heard their customer service is awesome.

I'll have mine out in the heat Tuesday and Wednesday so we'll see what happens.....

I had a good experience. Lots of reviews and comments here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/review-fold-a-cover-g4-elite.24152/

I can verify that. This response was on Jan 26:
We are very close to releasing the G4 Elite for the new Tacoma. I would expect that we will begin taking orders in the next few weeks.

That said, I'm a little excited that multiple people are hearing that they'll be out next week.

Was gonna wait on G4, gave up and ended up with a BakFlip. I didn't realize BakFlip allows you to keep your stock rail system. That was the only reason I thought I didn't want it. Once I looked into it and found out you keep your rails it was a done deal. So far so good, really happy with BakFlip. Got a good deal from autoanything.

How is the access to the header rail if you have it? If you don't have one, how do you think it will be? Considering this type of cover as I've had very good luck with the F1 on my F150 before.
