How much weight can you safely haul in the truck bed? I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma TSS. I am being told by a family member that hauling 15 bags of animal feed (750 lbs) is too much for my truck and will cause transmission and other troubles.

That weight will be fine... they might have a point if you wanted to do that full time. But a trip from point A to point B would be no problem.

I haul it a couple times a month for about 20 miles.

I wouldn't be concerned with that at all to be honest. You should have the listed weight on a sticker in your drivers door, but I believe the max allowable is somewhere around 1,000 - 1,100 lbs if I'm not mistaken.

If you were worried about it you could always get a small trailer though.

lol I've done that a couple of times too but try not to make a habit of it. I'll have airbags going in soon so should eliminate any squat for heavier loads.

That alone is likely a good reason to be here double checking. :D

    Depends how long/how far.
I had a tip slip from the landfill (certified scale) in the glovebox for years that read 1025kg. That's almost 2300lb. It was all scraps/remnants from a interlock patio install. The leafs were flat, (sitting on the bumpstops) and the OEM Dunlops were a little squishy, even with 40PSI in them, but I got to the dump and back. That was 60,000 miles ago.
I haul a cu.yd. of topsoil, mulch (1200-2400lb, depending on how recent it has rained) or 1/2 yard of 3/4" GA (1400lb) a couple times a year with no problem
