You're at higher RPMS, but lower transmission gear. There should be a certain RPM it shifts from 4th to 5th, regardless of tire or gear ratio. That shouldn't change. Having lower gears will increase your RPMS when comparing same speed in the same gear. Lower gears should cause the transmission to shift sooner at all speeds and gears.

Right now at 70MPH, you are doing 2658/1914RPMs in 4th/5th gear. 4.10s will have you doing 2922/2104RPMs and 4.56s will have you doing 3250/2340. If your factory tires were 30.5inches, you were doing 2876/2071RPMs. As you can see, 4.10s put you almost exactly what it was when you bought it and should drive the same. 4.56s will be quite a bit lower, which depends on your driving to decide if that is good or not.

For the past few weeks I was doing a lot of research on gears for my 33's . Over all I read a lot of good things about 4.56 and just ordered 4.56 from ECGS. Everyone who got 4.56 was really happy with the result. Plus on top of my 33's I have like 500 pounds in armor and I feel the loss of power. I know 4.10 will bring me almost back to how it felt with stock tires, but how about all that extra weight ? So 4.56 should hopefully make my truck feel like it has power :)

That's something to consider as well since I'm armored as well.

If only it wasn't time consuming and expensive to switch gear ratios so I could just try both! LoL

Very happy with the results. I carry some weight, and sometimes tow a teardrop. I like the extra that the 4.56s gave me over 4.10s.

I used ECGS and installed them myself. TrueTrac in the rear, ARB in the front.

Okay so I talked to our local customs shop this morning. They are recommending I do 4.10 and NOT 4.56 since I put so many miles on the highway for my daily commute - and since this truck is my Daily Driver (only driver).

Their quote for ARB Air Lockers Front & Back + 4.10 Re-Gear Front & Back done all at once is $5,610.55
That includes the labor, parts, gear oils, and a return trip at 500 miles to refill the diffs after break in.

Does this seem fair to everyone?
    ARB Air Lockers $990 each
4.10 Front/Rear Gear Package w/Install Kits $1,210.00 (not sure on brand)

They've included a $500 discount for a local club affiliation.

That's a lot money ! I'm getting my front and rear regeared with new mater install kits and getting a ARB locker installed in the front for $2100. So say i Didn't have a rear locker and they charged me another 900, that would put me at 3000. So they are charging you $2,610 more just to remove the differentials? That's less that 3 hours worth of labor . You can remove them and send them to ECGS and save a ton of Money .

Yeah, i opted for the core swap with ECG and installed it myself. Go slow, watch out for the seals and you should be good. I did it in -40C so I'm sure in warm weather it would be much more pleasant. AS i said though, watch them seals! its an easy place to mess up

    @MJonAgs32 has 4.56 with 33s.

I have 4.56 with 35s and the truck drives at about stock RPMs. My mileage is terrible though.

They have a total of 25 hours of labor on their quote.

    12 hours front end
    8 hours rear
    4 hours install of compressor
1 hour for diff refill after break in

    $95/hr for labor
    Total: $2,375 for labor alone.

Wow! If you have a floor jack, stands, an impact, you can easily get the front end done in 3-4hours and even faster if you have a helper that doesnt have to do to much.

The rear is also super fast, in and out in less than 2 hours for sure.

    Compressor took me 2 hours

And these are all times @ -40c with no heat. The longest part was actually trying to fill the diff with oil at that temp.

And if you don't have tools you can spend a few hundred bucks on tools and still save a couple of thousand

I'm going to call a couple other places. I really likes the guys at this shop but obviously this is a lot of cash.

I don't see this as a project I can tackle. Don't have the time or skill set.

Yeah 4.56 with 33s is great for offroading, lots of power. A little high RPMs on the freeway, but that's what the DD is for. If the taco was a DD, I'd prob not regear.

Swapping thirds is a relatively easy task ESPECIALLY the rear one. Its literally just a buncha bolts you have to take off, proper sealant and slide the new one in how the old one slide out. The front is a little more tricky sure. Pay a local member to give you a hand. AS i said the only thing about the front is just them seals! the rear my gf can do and she's not that mechanically inclined

Left a message for another offroad shop.

Toyota dealer is an ARB dealer but they only do bumpers. They referred me back to my original shop.

I just put 4.56 gears with an arb locker in this weekend. Still waiting to go through a tank of gas so I can figure out how much my mileage dropped. So far I'm not too stoked on them. It feels pretty good, not near as much of a power gain as I expected. It pretty much feels like I lost my overdrive when driving above 50 mph. Granted with the supercharger I already had more than enough power with my s/c and supporting upgrades, I can potentially see myself going back to 3.73's in the future

Why not 4.10's? Seems to be the happy median I'm being pointed toward doing.

To me, 4:10s are spot on. I struggle a little off road on some slow tactical climbs but I'm gonna get a crawl box soon anyways so that won't be an issue any longer. I am spinning heavy ass 35s for now so yeah.

IF i was you, 33s, the stock gears in reality is fine and wouldn't warrant that kinda cost. I wouldn't change gears unless i planned to go to 35s

I can feel the loss in pep with the 33s. Cruising in town who cares. But on the highway I feel it for sure.

I'm planning on Moab June 1st which is why I'm considering it right now. And doing the lockers at the same time in theory saves labor down the road.
