Hey I've got a chrome grille surround and am curious as to what you guys have used in the past. I'm looking for some sort of strong metal mesh, or expanded steel? What have you guys used in the past?

They have used the expanded metal from Lowe's/Home depot or the custom material from http://www.customcargrills.com/ all depends on what you want to spend.

I'd rather spend as little as possible and the size of the expanded holes on the stuff from HD/Lowes was too big, and I didn't think looked sporty enough. Less Whiskey Tango and more perfection?

Then check some local metal shops. I found some at one here, but, I have to wait until I'm on break next week to go get some for my satoshi

i used the home depot mesh at first. looked nice painted black.

then i got a perforated sheet from Noe. (05prerunner) and never looked back.
dirty pic, but you get the idea. IMO the perforated sheet doesnt look as cheap as the home depot mesh :p

Stick on hood scoop from Autozone.
I just used a Grillcraft. It's expensive but I know that if I hit something on the road it won't bend or anything like that.
