I appreciate the wide open spaces as much as anyone, but I will say this for "reservation" camp grounds: When I travel west, from Georgia to Wyoming for instance, on the road I prefer staying at a KOA in my teardrop as opposed to a hotel on the side of the interstate.

It is not the best camping experience, but it is camping. And, a lot cheaper than a hotel, too.....

And when in unfamiliar territory probably a safe bet. CGs have there place....but only as a last resort

True. I don't stay in them when I am out west, only when traveling to and from.

Well, you know where to find me now. I'll be there 10 days the last week of June to the 4th. If I'm not at my campsite, leave a note on my teardrop. I'll scope out some mooseies for you.

One of the down sides to living in the Houston area, not many places to camp that are free, plus I didn't want to camp somewhere with a concrete slab with RV's on both sides of me, just not fun IMO. Anyone from the Houston area know any other places to camp, not at a camp ground, that would offer privacy?

Yeah, but the dogs in and out of the tent made it tough, oh well, we got hammered passed out, work up made breakfast and left, cleaned everything up at home. Next time we go beach camping we will just take the small 4 man tent and pack a lot lighter. Would really like to find some spot to primitive camp in the woods etc...

Don't knock it tell you try it! :ohsnap: LOL

but you do have a point there, I was thinking about gear and the rig. I'll shower to get the sand off me... even if it's with a make shift shower with several bottles of water.

Yeah, we werent the problem, the dogs went for a swim, then lounged in the sand by the fire, by time for bed, they had been in and out of the tent several times. My dog is well behaved and only stayed at the foot of the bed, no big deal. The problem was my fiance's dog, he's a big neurotic baby and he is always scared, he had to go in the tent and cuddle on mommas pillows, so her bed time situation was much worse than mine :kona:

We had to do some parts hauling so decided to bust out the ground tent setup.

I'm not sure where I read it, but I've been under the impression that, nationally, park attendance has been declining over the past few years.

Not the last few years. The whole find your park ad campaign and Obama's every kid in a park where 4th graders or whatever get free family passes for a year have boosted attendance. Gotten very crowded in Yelly lately.
