How do you even pop out the light cover? Do you use a screwdriver? Wedged into the top, bottom or sides?

2 tabs. One on either side. Press in. May need a short flathead screwdriver

With this issue on my FR-S tail lights, they came out with a TSB (after they replaced my lights twice). One of the pains of the first model year. I'd rather not spend my time at the dealership, but Toyota will fix it. They've given my daughter a Toyota backpack for free two of the times I was there too.

Was just at dealership last night for almost 2 hours. They ordered parts for the driver license plate light and two new rear window seals. I still have to go back for them to install those parts which will probably be at least another 2 hours. I really hate having to go to the dealer for little shit like this.

Just got home from sterling McCall in Houston. Took them 45 min to perform 10k service and clean and grease the light plug. Good as new.

Just caught this thread and never really knew it was an issue. By that, I mean it's been a normal experience for me on several Toyotas.

With my 4Runner I found I had to pull my tail lights every 5k or so to clean debri from the edges around it as well as pull the license plate lights to clean the lense and light bulb. I've seen the cleaning of certain areas on the truck or vehicle you be as routine as the oil change. From what I've found, a little RTV will help but not so much that condensation will build up in the housing.

I have this issue too. I would have never known to look had it not been for this forum.....................it is not exactly in a location I check often. I have a call in to my service dept as I have a pre-made appt Saturday. I hope they can get the part by then cuz I got better things to do than sit at a dealer for hours over several visits...................haha (it's getting warm here and the water is calling to me!!!!!!!!!)

:) I can tell you that my experience with two dealers in VA, they don't have the part....1 visit to tell me that, and another visit a week later to get it replaced.
It is also taking over 2 weeks to get the red clips I broke when I removed the rear cab panel.

I had to wait 3 weeks for the part. 2 separate visits about 2 hour wait each!

have this same issue on mine. Called dealer today to make my 5000 mi appointment and told them of the issue. I asked if they could order a new part so its there for my service date... Well, they tell me they cant do that & have to see that the part is defective themselves... Guess they don't have an appreciation for their customers time...

meeting with Toyota Rep on April 26 in reference to this problem. Have had passenger side replaced twice and driver side once, now both sides need replaced, he advised Toyota Engineers were working on replacement lamp due to this problem. Service guys were like "its just a small thing", and I'm like, "I didn't pay 38000 for a truck to have water in the tag lights.
