What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Anybody know what is needed in order to get a 2nd gen Softtopper to fit on the 1st gen bed?

Thanks! Ya I read the old seat is usually disintegrated. Was going to use a shop vac as I go in there so none falls through. Is there a seal that is supposed to go under the seat? Also what type of grease is good to use?

 

My electrically inclined buddy has a log in to one of those sites and we used that last time but he's busy all week so I'm trying to see where I can get.

No seal, it won't fit if you leave that old rubber seal that was under the stock seat. I used some basic red NLGI 2 Lithium grease I think. I assume your using the marlin seat. Don't worry if a piece here or there falls in, its rubber and shouldn't mess anything up. I scooped it clean with my fingers but mine was basically putty. Couldn't get into 3rd or 4th without pulling the shifter up, was annoying.

OK cool. Ya I read on some guys thread there was a seal that go's under the seat. I just received the seat and socket from marlin crawler this morning. They actually made a mistake and sent me two of each and told me to just keep them!
My shifter is just real sloppy and there is no resistance to keep it in 1st gear if I hit a bump or something it will just pop out. So I hope this will do the trick from what I have heard.

I finally found a shop that'll do my shocks.... But they won't just check, they will only recharge, which is still cheaper than. 3 hour drive.

Anyway, what's a good all around nitrogen psi, I guess that's what it's be?, to put inside my shocks. I do a lot of on the pavement driving but I also a lot of dirt road/ trail driving. I'd say about 55/45. Any recommendations?

 

I'd like it to have a kinda soft ride. Not like feather pillow soft but not slab of rock. Maybe a good memory foam firmness.

The amount of nitrogen pressure is not what will determine how the truck rides. The coil springs and the shock valving are what determine that.

Bought new wiper blades. Decided to try the Rain-X Latitudes. Their universal adapter looks a bit much, but the blades are quite nice.



I also got a new fuel cap. In addition to the other evap code I've had, there's another pending one. So I'm going to try that first before I do anything bigger. Are these cheap Duralast caps reliable for fixing fuel cap issues, should that be the issue?

 

I'm a fan of Stant when it comes to pressure caps or vacuum stuff. Napa sells Stant in their Balkamp boxes as well for some products.

 

Call DSM ask what your specific setup should be.

 

I saw those at Pep-Boys a couple weeks ago.
I thought the adapter looked hideous as well, and couldnt get myself to pay what they wanted for them, so I got the cheaper Rain-X wipers.
The previous owner had some Bosches on it, and they still look OK, so I didnt put the Rain-X ones on yet.

 

This /\would be your best bet. Different brands and set ups have different recommended pressures. More is generally not better.

 

Stant's logo is on my gas cap opposite Toyota's logo. They make a lot of stuff that is OEM and not replacement parts.

 

Yikes zip ties? That sounds dangerous. These plates are waay to heavy for zip ties to hold safely

 

Stant's part catalogue shows part number 10834. Advance Auto says they have it in stock nearby. I'll head over there and pick it up since the store is not even 10 minutes away. Thanks, guys.
