Hopefully the 2L/100km reduction per tank continues...

The crazy thing is that these trucks get better fuel economy than my shitty FRS.
Can't wait for my inferno TrdOR to arrive

I went from a 2010 civic si that averaged 10 L/100km. I will gladly take the 12L /100km for a bigger more useful vehicle

Agreed, my truck is getting about the same fuel economy as my Subaru STi and now I don't have to buy the expensive gas, so I feel like I'm saving money.

Yup same here no more premium gas at .18 cents more than regular. So far I am very happy with this truck. The only thing it does that I don't like is when I let it roll slowly into my parking spot in my underground it will start to surge. It does this in drive and reverse.

yup, even before i tuned the FRS it required premium which is freaking stupid in my opinion. Honestly the only time it sucked was when I was sent to Vancouver by work; it was midsummer and premium was averaging $1.50/L

So Country Hills Toyota checked my truck for my complaint the truck had an abnormal rough feel to it compared to my previous 4 Tacomas. They swapped the tires for stock ones, and said my c rated KO2's were the entire reason…case closed.
Well, I WISH that was the end of the story. They replaced my original tires back on, installing the right tire's caster improperly having the tire 2 inches further back compared to the left tire….so now the right side rubs my mudflap again!!!!
I called the advisor, saying I couldn't keep making this 35km drive…. she said it was my fault not accepting having the supervisor do a ride along for them to prove to me the ride was warrant of no action. I just wanted to go home and didnt want to argue anymore….I didn't know they were going to introduce a new issue.

I also accidentally called her a desk clerk and wanted to talk to a manger instead of arguing with her, she said she was an advisor and hung up on me!!!

I am SOOOOO done with Country Hills Toyota!:censored:

I was told by someone who has friends and family that work for Toyota that corperate is well aware that there is a major problem with the transmission in the 2016 Tacoma. Not one that's going to cause it to fail or anything but vibrations and poor shifting are far to common among these trucks. They are looking for a software fix but there is no word on time of release yet.

    I just test drove a 16' premium.

Meh. Some nice stuff, some disappointing stuff.

Exterior - Decent looking, but cant get over how big that nose and grill are. I know they have to do it because of the new pedestrian safety regulations but still... Im just not a fan of it. Much prefer my 15's, though I will say that the 16's stamped tailgate is pretty nice.

Interior dash is much nicer, but I feel like I am sitting 4 inches higher for some reason. Im not sure why, perhaps the sunroof? The sunroof is a nice to have feature (not really necessary IMO), but it seems that when its closed my head is near the roof. Im 6'... Not sure if thats just me or not. The overall interior is nice though, but I found the seats slightly harder (might just be due to lack of cushion wear). Push button start is meh and not needed IMO. Tech package has a bunch of nice stuff. The nicest features are the dash and auto climate control, which I did like quite a bit. Otherwise it felt pretty much identical inside. So to summarize - some of the tech features are somewhat useless but overall its slightly nicer.

Powertrain - I get that toyota are between a rock and a hard place and had to do some pretty big changes to keep up with fuel economy and emissions but damn. The engine itself is not bad but it just doesn't seem as throaty and responsive as the 4L. The 3.5 feels more like a minivan/suv engine. Thats not a big deal though - feels powerful enough to do the job.

But here's where they lost me: that new tranny. I dont consider myself a transmission snob but wow was it ever disappointing. Responsiveness was slower, gear selection was average, i felt like it was hunting for what gear to be in - especially when accelerating somewhat aggressively. I felt like something was off... almost like I could get more acceleration and power from pushing the gas halfway than I could all the way down. I know that sounds weird but I just couldn't get my head around it. Even the salesman said it was something that you would have to get used to, and I'm not sure that's something that I would really trust for a long term powertrain. Add to that a completely unproven engine and I'm just hoping that the guys with 16s don't get powertrain issues down the road. I'm sure toyota has tested it heavily but I personally would have a hard time throwing 40k on a unproven powertrain.

TLDR; I was impressed by some stuff, and unimpressed by others. I just didn't feel the WOW that I felt should come with a new generation. Its just a more refined 2nd gen, really.

That's just my opinion - take it with a grain of salt since I do own a 15 so I will undoubtedly be a bit biased towards it.

Pretty much had the exact impressions as you. I'll add it was quieter inside (slightly) and handled slightly better in corners than my 2010.

The headroom thing was a huge issue for me. The sunroof takes a significant amount of headroom away. I can see how anyone that is above 5'11" could even sit/drive one of these with a sunroof unless they have very long legs compared to their torso. I'm 6 foot and there is no way a sunroof equipped truck is an option.

This is definitely something that various from person to person.

I'm 6'3 and wear 32" inseam pants, so I'm fairly evenly proportioned and fit just fine in Tacos, 4Runners etc with Sunroofs. I just put the seat all the way back, recline the backrest a bit and voila, I fit just fine.

I am 6'6" or so and I cannot fit in any vehicle with a sunroof, exception being some full size domestics. My truck is coming without the sunroof so I have some room!

Have you folks been getting lots of complaints on the transmission? I personally know 2 guys who bought 16's and have already begun complaining about it.

    I appreciate your reply.

Trust me, I tried all sorts of seating positions (close to steering wheel, far away from wheel, with the seat back reclined and with it more upright) and nothing worked while maintaining a good driving position with your hands safely around the steering wheel and reaching the foot pedals. The problem was the rail system that was installed in the ceiling of the truck. It caused me to have to tilt my head (significantly) to the right side. The left side of my head was hitting the roof rails (see the illustration). I'm not overstating it - it would make the truck impossible to drive with a sunroof.

This was at an auto show and another guy (stranger) about my height had the same issue when he got in the truck afterwards and adjusted the seats. Funny thing, right after I walked over to a Corolla with a sunroof and I had tons of head room in all directions.

FYI I'm 6 foot tall with 32" inseam jeans.

I don't know what you people are talking about: sunroof is fine for me, at 6 feet and 1/2 inch, I fit just fine, no head tilting. Plenty of room to spare. I like my seat reclined slightly, and pushed back almost all the way. I can reach the steering wheel fine as well, and I can also see over the hood scoop without any issues.

When I was shopping around I went into Country Hills and ended up walking out within 10 min. Felt like I got entirely snubbed and treated like an idiot. Nobody would even talk to me without shoving an offer to purchase and a pen in my hand.

Maybe think about checking out a different dealership for service/warranty issues? I just took mine to Stampede Toyota the other day to get the trans level checked as a precaution and they were fantastic to deal with.

I haven't heard anything. I've sold about 8 Tacomas since they came out in October and not one customer has complained about the transmission when I've followed up with them.

What issues are they having with the transmission?
