This "detecting exhaust pulses" info is new to me.

On my Tundra, I never got around to making the block off plates. In did the bypass mod with intentions to make the plates the next weekend. I completly forgot about them. I've been driving the thing for 40000 miles with a valve stuck open.
The truck hasn't burnt to the ground yet.

OK so I've run Into an issue.
I made and installed my block plates(throws stuck closed codes now instead of open)

Wired my resistor into my relay wiring. And very roughly connected everything up.

Started truck and pump ran. Grabbed my scanner and watch the iat on the graph. It spikes to - 7C for about 1 second then goes back to +12 so I know it's working.

My issue is that I need a timer I'm guessing. The resistor is not triggering the iat long enough. If I hold key in crank a few seconds longer it doesn't come on

The 2TR has had this system since 2005. My '06 has 94,000 miles and I haven't had any issues with it, and I haven't heard of any widespread problems with other 4 bangers. It would be interesting to see what the differences are between the 4 and 6 cylinder setups.

I was referring to Tacoma's with the 4.0 as those are the ones experiencing the issues. 4bangers have one less valve, I'm unsure if it is the same style or not though.

I have a question, I have a 13 DCSB does anyone hear this pump turn on when you start the truck, it will run for a 1minute or so and then shuts off, at least I don't hear it any more. It also turns on for about 10 second after I turn the truck off. Is this normal??

I'm guessing it's trying to help the catalytic converter burn off what little fuel vapors that are left in the cylinders and manifold. The same goes with the charcoal vapor screen in the intake next to the air filter. When you turn off the engine, the remaining minute fuel vapors sit in the cylinder and intake. To keep it from going out into the atmosphere that filter suppose to clean it of gasoline fumes.

Thanks for the explanation, Here's what happen and why I am asking this question. I removed the original pump (which I never heard turn on and off before), to install a Volant cold air intake system and I dropped the original pump on the floor of the garage...oooops, and of course I broke it. Purchased a new / used from e-bay, installed it in its new location inside the Volant system and now is when I heard it turn on and of...I guess if I really think about it, what you indicate make sense, due to the installation of the Volant cold air intake and a throttle spacer, there is more air going into the engine, and this pump needs to scavenge off any extra exhaust fumes that the engine and catalytic produce.

All it is, is a small motor. I assume what you're hearing is the motor bearings. Being a used one, most likely it's not going to last long. Maybe if you still have the old one a local shop could repair the motor?

maybe what I will do is, install the original one, the only thing that broke on it was the plastic housing where the hoses go. I can swap out the plastic housings and see what happens...Thanks for the info...

Funny my 05 4 cylinder with 92K miles on the pump shorted out this 2015 summer, and I live in Florida! It's only a matter of time.

Their's only one torx screw holding the top housing on. I also broke the cheap plastic top piece trying to get it off! Just work with it, until it finally comes off. Suggest to leave the used one in place until you need to swap them. Worse case you'll break the used one you just purchased.

Filled up gas tank from 1/4 tank....lights still there. Drove 1/2 hour, truck sat for 2 hours.....lights gone when started. Havnt been back on since. Put another 50 or so miles on it and turned it off & on several times....hasnt returned. Made appt with dealer on monday while light was on....keeping appt

I live in Massachusetts, a Cali emissions state and I also work as a service writer in the automotive field. I pulled a few strings with the guys I know at the Toyota parts department. He read from the "dealer" warranty manual that secondary air pump systems fall into the 7 year, 70,000 mile emissions warranty. I have an appointment this Friday. My contact in the parts department already ordered the part for me. If you're not in a CA emissions state you may have to cough up the $800+ to repair it but I would try pushing the federal emission law with your local dealership regardless. I've seen the OEM air pumps for sale online in the $550 range for the DIYers. I've been carrying around one of our expensive shop scan tools to erase the P2445 code whenever the light goes on. IMO it's dangerous to drive since the truck goes into a low power or "limp" mode! I live in New England with a lot of hills, my poor Taco can't get out of its own way. I'll try to post my results after my appointment.

Lights havnt returned....dealer said cant help unless lights are on. Hopefully it was just a pressure issue in gas tank.

Not sure who you're fooling, when you keep erasing the code and keep driving. It's just a matter of time where it'll go completely bad, get it fixed or get that by pass system and be done with it! https://www.hewitt-tech.com/store/

No they haven't, you might get lucky. Check with your dealer maybe there's a change or your state requires a longer warranty.
