Thanks man, I had it done at my local Toyota dealership. The truck drives straight as an arrow. The service department has always done great for me.

So you are pretty certain that I will not be able to get proper alignment with the TC ucas? Is being out of spec caster wise going to have any negative affect?

It's hard to tell what is proper alignment, everyone seems to have their own info on what is proper for lifted taco, TW members claim 2.5 degree is proper. All pro UCAs(same as TC) recommend 3-4 degree caster. Toyota factory set at 1.8 and maximum allowed 2.7 im not aware of any negative effect on to much caster, only the one you describing, wheel is not comming back to center when coming from turn. I didn't like how my truck handle with to much caster, to me steering wheel was not responsive as before. At 2.0 begree truck feels really good IMO but it was rubbing, had to set at 2.7 still drives fine not much change. I'm running 285/65 18 with -12 offset and 24.5" front wheel hub to fender mesurements

Well, to put it bluntly.... If you only care about looks, over ride quality and performance, then yes, it will give you a lift and allow you to run larger tires, however that's where the benefits strop. Spacers are known to cause a rough ride, premature component failure and certainly not offer you any increased performance what so ever. I know the dealer installs and sells these kits, however I think we can all agree that what the dealer does to sell a car isn't always in the best interest of the buyer..

Anyhow, that's just my two cents..

That's why I'm asking, I'm new and I don't know too much. I thank you for your opinion and everyone else. I don't plan on going off road any time soon. Im not even going to change the rims just tires maybe ST Maxx or KO2 and maybe 1 size larger 275 X 75 or 70 X 16. So yes I'm going for looks, something good in the snow, and maybe some dirt roads.
Thank you for your feed back.

It's fine to run spacer lift you know the consequence. As long as you don't flex your suspention much it's ok. But if you buttom out front strut, running curb or even hole in dirt road you can snap your shock in half and leave you stranded. I would suggest do more research before you commit to spaser lift.

At the same time I don't want premature component failure.. For my application, what do you recommend.

Why is everyone installing and recommending the Bilstein 5100 lift when the shock is not even close to rated for the spring rate of these new Tacos?

No one is recommending them, but people still run them at their own risk maybe because pair of 5100 under $200 if they were $850 a piece I can see your consern.

I was considering this but after much research I am going to wait until more options are released specifically for the 3rd gen. I have spoken to a local lift shop and Headstrong and it just seems like giving the aftermarket time to catch up is a good idea. I plan on owning my truck until the wheels fall off and it may see many suspension setups, but I want their replacement to not be premature.

Someone on TW just quoted a summer release for 2016 Taco Bilsteins. I am procrastinating hoping they are released soon. I agree that the current Bilstein adjustables were not made for our truck. Patience is a virtue. I would rather pay $300 or more for the correctly engineered and designed model for our truck.

I saw that and my thoughts precisely. I have a friend who drives a GX470 that is lifted with spacers and he is trying to get me to go that route and I refuse to give in. I'll just wait till we go wheeling and he snaps a strut. Then I get to make the "I told you so" face. :boink:

Here's my .02 for what it's worth. I have had an 05, a 2012 and now a 2016. All pretty much the same config, DCSB AT... That said, my 2012 and now my 2016 both have/had the exact same Icon Stage 5 kit, and in all honesty, comparing apples to apples, the stage 5 kit rides WAY better in the 16. I truthfully felt that the ride in my 2012 was a little rough at times, and can say with certainty that my 2016 drives MUCH smoother in all conditions while still handling the off roading I do with ease.

So take it for what it's worth, but I've got about 11k miles on my truck now(lift went on in the first week), driven the truck to SoCal, Southern Utah, Northern Nevada and all over AZ without even the slightest issue from the suspension..

As for the 5100's, likely the only thing to see any change(from what I have read) is the position of the ring grooves on the shock body and possible the valve stack. Other than that, construction design is likely going to be identical.. Time will tell though.

Same lift or did you buy a new one. If not how many miles did you have on the suspension on the '12?

Same lift. Took everything off the 12 and transfered to the 16. So, the suspension had roughly 60k miles from the 12 and another 11 on the 16.

Damn that's good. Remote reservoir shocks right?
