I can say from an inside source that Toyota is aware of it and have parts to fix the issue. My buddy was on a 3 hour conference call (runs a Toyota store) and the are addressing this, pinion issues, transfer case and trans fluid, etc at the factory now. It's only a matter of time before the parts are available at your local store. For the howling, they have plugs for the holes.

Have they found a solution for the vibration at ~ 2000 rpm as well?

The vibration is the one thing I don't know for sure. My contact told me they aren't issuing TSBs because it's a new model and they don't want bad press (which is understandable). But one thing is for sure, they take the reliability and consistency part of the Tacoma's history very serious, they are spending a ton of time on this. 3 hour call to dealerships just on the Tacoma is unheard of for Toyota/any model, so I'm told.

I have the same thing happen to mine at highway speed and a windy day. The door pillar whistles like you said. The door seals are very loose. You can stick a piece of paper in the rear upper portion of the gasket and the door and let go of it, it falls right out. D-: Very irritating!!

There is a big thread on this in the 2nd gen forum. I get the same noise too in heavy wind. I'm going to try the slit in the seal and inserting rubber tubing.

Do some reading in this thread:

Holes are plugged now. Huge huge improvement. I still get a noticeable howl at almost exactly 58 mph. It's very consistent at that mph. Seems to be coming from the passenger side. I ended up trying to plug/tape all the holes but still happening. I can live with the noise, but just annoying because speed limit on the main road I travel is 50 mph. So I'm frequently cruising at right about 58.

Anyone else with this same residual howl on their truck? I have a DCSB OR.

I get a howl type noise from the driveline when I'm applying throttle at highway speeds. When I take foot off accelerator it stops.

Its most likely the rear differential when related to throttle input. Mine does it around 55 light throttle. I may dig into it this week at work if we are slow.

You can pickup the hole plugs at Lowe's in their hardware section next to all the screws and bolts. You just need two packs and you don't need to plug every hole. I just put one of each size on each side. Remember you just want to interrupt the air pattern flow to stop the howling noise. They will be in the specialty bins.... All Lowe's have them

    Item# 139460 9/16"

At the dealership right now getting the plugs that they ordered last week installed. They told me there were six. Hope it works. They also are doing a computer update. Last week the body shop fixed the hood adhesion problems. Hopefully, I won't need to come back until my 10,000 mile service.

The howling stopped on mine... I only installed one of each size on the lower control arms... All gone now.

I need some help, please!!! I've read through this thread and even taped these holes up under my truck. But, it appears that I have a different problem regarding a buzzing or wind noise.

I don't seem to have this "howl" that is described in this thread. However, I do have a very loud "buzz" noise coming from the passenger (right) A-pillar.

Here is the link to the youtube video:

    https://youtu.be/KGBoqUQgqHI

    here too:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGBoqUQgqHI&feature=youtu.be

It is very loud and only appears at speeds greater than 60mph AND only with a left to right cross wind (wind blowing perpendicular from the driver's side across to the passenger side). I haven't taken it in to the dealership yet...will do so at my first service.

I think it might be the wind hitting the rubber seal on the windshield perfectly and causing it to act/vibrate similar to a turkey/duck call. My buzz is a much lower tone than a turkey or duck call, but sounds very similar.

Again, it's not constant, only at speed with a specific cross wind. I wouldn't complain so much, but I live in OKC where the wind never stops. And, after about 10 minutes of this constant sound (which can be so loud that you can't hear the radio), it's enough to driver a person nuts.

Anybody experience this too? Any help on how to get it fixed?

    Thanks!
