Bad smell after AC off?

    FWIW had same issue with a purchased new VW Passat in 07. They offered "AC sytem cleaning" at no charge whenever smell got bad. The smell was musty almost sweaty-sock-like.

    Once you get some mold/mildew on the evaporator or within the housing, the smell won't go away. The condensate doesn't smell if there is no organic growth occuring. You live in a hot climate and leaving a wet evaporator overnight is a good breeding ground for molds/mildew to grow. Get it cleaned and then be religious about drawing in outside air for a couple of minutes with the A/C off before you shut the vehicle off. You want to dry the coil as much as possible and not let it sit damp. If you just shut the truck off with the A/C running, the evaporator will be covered in condensate.

    Dealer sprayed Ozium (sp?) into the 2 AC air intakes on passenger side under hood near the windshield. Says it's pretty common.

    Toyota running boards/Solid Fold 2.0/custom stickers/Anti-Dark LED light under hood/Derped grill/Scoop, etc.
    I believe this is where the so-called "Legionaire's Disease" came from..... It developed in the air conditioning units at a Legionaire's convention.... Not sure where that was, but essentially the same thing...

    I'd get it fixed ASAP, and use a spray product every so often to be sure!

    Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

    OK, a little more research indicates that your are not at risk of Legionnaire's disease from a car's A/C system; however, you may still get some nasty odours and some fungal crap growing in there.....

    There are sprays to kill that crap....
