My husky would never sleep in a tent unless it was raining (he was hydrophobic). He would always sleep on the perimeter of our camp.

My topper leaks like a sieve so I couldn't sleep in there, unless in a dire emergency.

I have to pack everything in action packers and dry bags when I go camping.

yeah, though they seemed pretty strong... I'm with you, don't know I'd trust a night's sleep and my gear to snow or a heavy storm. but it did well in the 20-30mph gusts I had it in... (it was barrowed from a buddy so couldn't tell you the price... but look like this http://www.nemoequipment.com/product/?p=Morpho+Elite+2P only the one I used was green and black ) Nemo makes quality products though so who knows

I slept in my bed under my softtopper... I had to do a lot of unpacking/packing due to using a truck bedz air mattress which required the bed to be empty (and being that it's an air mattress, and even though very thick material, I had to double check for anything that may cause a puncture) AND had to find a place to put all my shit I took out of the bed! lol

I've been thinking about an elevated sleep platform more and more after I met with you to get the softopper. I've been looking at cot-tents, but the head space in those are miserable. OZ or a similar set up may be the way to go.

He snuggles with me and growls away the woodland creatures.
Hunting season, gotta hide the scent.
The lantern and coffee pot get packed. The rest settles in nicely after a few bumps.

lol, no. It goes in another tent. But, if you have a camper, guess what, you are sleeping with your shit. It's still a porta potty.
Two weeks with snow and rain and wind, I need some comforts of home.
And burying it doesn't hide the scent, I can smell where my buddies shit in the woods, I'm sure the elk can too.

I'd build one out of wood, or just buy a cot and put it in your bed $.02 (like what BDN does) if you're really wanting to camp in your bed... the air mattress got COLD at night, and "lost" (air contracted as it cooled) air.

you hunt that close to your camp? what about food do you not cook? so does your porta Potty never leave your truck? I guess I don't see the point. I hunt deer and elk, and always have a shitter outside with a pop up privy, but we also don't hunt from camp, so doesn't matter if the animals can smell our camp.

see pic. Shitter to the right.
And I can't tell you how many times I return to camp and see deer, or their sign, while I was gone.
The tarp over the truck doubles as a blind too. during the day when nothing is happening I can hang out and see but not be seen.
    Sometimes it works.

yeah that's what we use, though for us, it's probably another 20 yards away from us (hey, I'm not shitting rose buds!) and yes, we'll see animal tracks when we return as well... doesn't help any, because it's always while we're somewhere else! lol.

I guess my point is, the animals know you're there, regardless of if they smell your shit, they smell your truck, your food, your fire. But maybe it's because we don't hunt from blinds so we don't think about that point(not knocking it... just saying we don't do it)

No fires in my hunting camp.
I can't make it 20 yards to the shitter.
I bow hunt so a blind of some kind is kind of helpful.
    My shit don't stink.
