Looking for 6" lift for my 5 lug, 2wd, 2013

I'm looking to lift my truck. Does anyone know where I can find a 4" or 6" (6" preferred) lift for my 2wd 5 lug 2013 Toyota Tacoma?
No open country or rough country, I want a high quality lift that wont sag later on.

Long travel maybe

 

5-lug, non mid-travel is generally a 2.75" front/1.5 or 1.75" rear level-lift kit involving a front spacer, and rear add-a-leaf, combined with longer shocks on the front. Going any larger involves a combination of body lift and/or mid-travel that gets real expensive, real fast. I don't even know off the top of my head what would be involved with a 2nd gen 5-lug mid-travel kit.

The limitations with the 5-lug include different UCA/LCA's than the 6 lugs, different coils, different frame mounts, rear differential angles, front steering mount components length limitations, etc etc.

Wrong truck for this, IMHO.

I'm not too concerned with price, I have a lump sum coming to me and it needs to be lifted, it looks like a low rider. -_-
I want a 6in lift with 35s
Or a 4in with 33s
I'll have to talk to my mechanic and see if he can figure out something for me..
If anyone can find anything tho that'd be awesome.

 

Unless your "lump sum" coming to you is a small loan of a million dollars, I'd sell the low rider and get a 6 lug and start off right.

 

Is it within the realm of possibility to just sell the truck and get a 6 lug since you're about to get a bunch of cash? Life will be a whole lot easier.

Best practical solution to this - sell the 5-lug, or trade it in for a 6-lug Pre-Runner, if you can find one to trade in on (if 2wd is your thing) .. otherwise, go for a 4x4 model, and work from there.

You can certainly improve on the low-rider appearance with suspension and wheel/tire upgrade changes, but even with the mid-travel kits (if available) it'll always be a compromise with the 5-lug.

 

It's financed. My old truck died and I could only get a loan through a dealer and it seemed like a great truck... Until I started looking for lifts recently..

 

Similar situation to me - i too was between a vehicle lease trade-in, and a very tight budget. The 5-lug fit the bill, and i lived with the Corolla-like ride height for 4 years before making changes. The changes were triggered by need for new rubber, which turned into new 16" wheels wearing conservative 225/75R16's. The lift/level kit went in a few weeks later to compensate for additional ride height. Still plenty of room to upsize the rubber as needed/desired - I've seen as high as 265/75R16's being used in a lift/level kit. This would bring you very close to the stock ride-height of the 4x4 SR5.

At some point - upsizing the tire/wheel package will also necessitate a final drive gear - the 2wd 5-lugs have a 3.307 final drive (manual transmission) and a 3.58 final drive (auto transmission) that will need replacement as you go up in tire size much beyond 31" diameter. Stock 4x4 or 2wd Pre-runner final drives are at a 4.10 ratio. The manual transmissions require a full third member replacement, while the auto transmission needs a simpler regearing of the stock internals of the third member.

 

OK so here are the options. Since you have the money, you can basically custom make a front suspension. That is what I am doing this summer. You will need a spacer, new upper control arm, prolly total chaos, and possibly a spindle lift ad well. You could defiantly clear 33s with that. One suggestion, get 16" rims. They offer more tire options. It is not possible to clear 35s. Not for this truck. 33s are doable but you need to remove the black box and you many have some rubbing so get spacers. Hope this helps.

 

I know people clear 33's from time to time but you also need to consider your gearing as it will be prob out of range making the drive sluggish. As for rubbing on with 33's it usually seems to be because of the fender lining, part of the front bumper and of course the black box.
And as far as actual kits total chaos makes a 5 lug lt kit that says it'll clear 33's with new fenders.

There's also 31's and 32's most 5 lug owners usually go for 31's and have no fitment problems. 32's are also an option that requires less trimming than 33's. If I recall they just removed their fender lining.


As for custom suspension just remember theres a whole bunch of geometry involved and I'm sure getting an alignment would be really fun too.

As for a spindle lift which would solve everyone's lift problems they only exist for 5 lug gen 1. If anyone has figured out something for the spindles please let us all know lol.
