Very Disapointing.. RUST!

Hi guys, i just recently bought my Tacoma a year ago, hasnt seen winter until this winter, and so I looked under my truck today.. to find RUST. WTH do i do now? i only got 8000K clicks on it,

 

Rust or just oxidation? There is no need to alarm yourself of oxidation. If it is rusting, you should check if there is a body guarantee.

I am pretty sure he just mistook rust with oxidation. Oxidation is what happens to a a bitten of apple when you leave it in the air. it does the same thing to metal, it's nothing to be alarmed about.

Most of the heavy metal stuff will tend to show surface rust during this time frame/mileage, especially if your truck is not garaged kept. Probably nothing to worry about, but I hate rust so I keep up on the spot painting under my truck. However, keep a close eye on the frame and underbody areas for rust, which is cause for alarm with a newer truck.

Here is a tip that people don't hear a lot. Don't park your car on anything but paved roads. If it is not paved humidity will sip trough the dirt and produce rust under your body. Trust me i have first hand experience. It's fine leaving it from time to time, but if you consider your lawn as a parking spot, you should change that.

 

is it possible to restore the frame in the future when the rust actually occurs through the whole body chassis? for example, sand off all the rust and repaint it?

 

It is always best to deal with REAL rust immediately. Not hope to restore it later. Rust can propagate very fast.

Yeah.... god damn salt! I like the snow, snow is fine, it is the salt that rusts cars. Want a tip? Pressure wash the salt off.

 

Putting your truck in a warm garage every night will accelerate rusting - heat accelerates the reaction between the steel, oxygen and water to form iron oxides (rust).

From what I hear it's been too cold in Central Alberta all week for anything to rust, unfortunately probably too cold outside for a vehicle to start as well.

Fortech is right. The worst thing you can do in a cold snowy climate is put the truck in wet every night into a heated garage. "rust never sleeps"
