Installed the pioneer receiver. Not the rest of the stuff because I am thinking sound deadening, etc.
So I won't open up the doors more than once. The mic isn't working for BT calling, when I open up the console when I do the HVAC LEDs I will check the mic.

Got in the new headlights, but will attempt later, looked at grill removal procedure. Taping off current alignment is futile with the hazed up POS lights I have now. They are much more effective at illuminating me to others than providing illumination for me.

Discovered the battery cable upgrades. Crap, something else to do/spend money on.

Just out of curiosity, what would it cost to actually replace a frame? Like $10k? Has anyone ever done it on their own? Obviously that's about the biggest job you could possibly do with your truck but I'm just wondering lol :p. And honestly i dont know what it'd require seems like you just pull the motor/trans, body, axles, and other small pieces? Again I'm just curious I would never trust myself doing something that huge if I had to. That craigslist ad got me thinkin about this stuff

I think I looked on camal back and it was between $4000-$5000, not including shipping. After the cab and bed is off the other stuff would be easy. It really wouldn't be that hard to do a whole frame swap. Would take some time, but its all just nuts and bolts.

    EDIT: It's even less.... $2500
    http://parts.camelbacktoyota.com/pa...siteid=214329&vehicleid=84925&diagram=8510135

I probably would have spent less time and effort doing a frame swap them fixing mine...

You know you have hoarded too many miscellaneous Taco and 4Runner parts when you randomly find parts you were planning on buying the very next day. I was supposed to buy a clock and face plate tomorrow but I guess I already owned them. In the same box I also found a glove box light and a center console lid hinge out of a 3rd Gen 4Runner. The hinge and the glove box light makes for a plug and play/bolt and go deal. I wasn't expecting the unbroken console lid hinge to be the same part number as my '99 Taco but it is, score. Gotta love salvage yards. What started all of this was digging through my shit looking for bulbs for my heater controls. As you can see I struck out on the bulbs.

That is the wrong word. Tense would describe it better. I didn't want to fuck it up. I was most worried about making the whole too big with my step drill. But as you can see, it worked. Took my time, measured twice, cut once.

Installed a Pioneer FH-X820BS Radio, CD, with Sirius, Bluetooth and all the bells and whistles. took 1.5 hours and it works great, great sound out of OEM speakers, but I am almost 74 and my hearing is bad so having expensive speakers does nothing for me. Having the Bluetooth handsfree phone is great and the abilty to play my music off my phone or listen to Pandora is great. Bought it from Crutchfield's cheaper the Pioneer, and Amazon and free shipping. Got a $70 rebate on the Sirius receiver and some kind of discount on the programing. Got free Pandora for 60 days. No modifications need basically plug and play.

$2500 for a new frame? That's a good deal, if it's as easy as you say I think i can make my taco live forever...

ITs not an easy at home type job. You'd need a ton of shop space and lots of tools.

lifting the full cab off is no easy task.

Otherwise, just be very time consuming. Lots of things on the frame people don't think about, wiring looms and fuel and brake lines. Plus while you're there you may as well get a bunch on new parts, all new bushings everywhere and such. Toyota installs all new bushings when they do it, even new suspension.

    2500 for a frame...sure. Cheap..BUT..add on all the labor and it's probably around 5k.

Plus there are a lot of weak points on the frame. It would be good to address those before a swap. It's not necessary but it would be beneficial.

5k including labor? I was reading about people (not tacos) who were paying like 10-13k for a frame and labor... I definitely don't have the tools to put a new frame on but it would be cool to do if I did though

When toyota replaces the frame they strap the motor into the engine bay so none of that comes out really. Just gets unbolted from the motor mounts. I think I've heard it cost toyota around 10k to do the replacement.
